Poll: Is your band well known?

I recently had the pleasure of having to explain who one of my favourite bands was to one of my friends. Then I realized that not many of my bands are very well known. I mean for every Metallica and Alice Cooper I listen to I listen to a Tyr, Sabaton and Ensiferum. So do you think your favourite band is well known? And to clarify, have you ever have to explain who they were?

My 3 favorite bands/artists are Led Zeppelin, Eminem, and Aesop Rock.
The only one I have to explain is Aesop Rock, but he is still pretty popular.

The band in particular that I'm about to mention aren't too well known when it comes to the mainstream shit. You'd wanna be into that kinda "network" to hear about them. They're called BATS. they're fucking fantastic and I implore people to have a listen to one of my favourite songs by them.

Dexter Romweber is my hero. He's not especially well known, but he does have a devoted following and has managed to put out many albums over the years.

R.E.M., Depeche Mode and Queen are all about as well-known as they get.

Given that my favourite bands and artists are Avenged Sevenfold, Deadmau5 and Pink Floyd, I've never had to explain who they are.

Although when people go through my MP3 player and see things like Ensiferum, Tellison, The Stranglers (WHY SHOULD I NEED TO EXPLAIN WHO THEY ARE?!), James LaBrie, John Pettruci and Marillion, I do tend to have to offer explanations when they enquire.

Depends on where I ask. Here, there's a good chance people have heard of Devin townsend or Protest the hero.

No one's heard of SikTh though, if anyone listens to them I've probably introduced them.

I don't think I ever have to explain Rush,Most People know Blue Oyster Cult for the More Cowbell thing,and most people now the Foo Fighters or at least know David Grohl.

I believe just about everybody knows Black Sabbath and Metallica.

I've unfortunately met very few people who know most of the bands I like. I do like quite obscure punk bands but even the more well known bands like Bad Religion most people seem to know nothing about.
My favourite band seems to change quite a bit though. I'd currently say it is between Bad Religion and Social Distortion.

My favourite artist is David Bowie. It's kind of scary how many people don't know him.

At the moment my favourite bands are Metallica, Iron Maiden, Apocalyptica and Black Sabbath.
So yeah I am pretty sure that most people have heard of them except maybe Apocalyptica.

Well... Tool Just headlined Big Day out (Im in Australia, and no, we are not as starved of videogames as germany, before you ask), and they have a semi big fanbase, mostly consisting of trip-outers (which Im not one of, personally these kind of Tool fans often piss me off), Deftones were there too, but arent as big, and Porcupine Tree... well Im unsure. But generlly most of my favourite bands are not well known, like dead letter circus, Sleep parade... the list of obscurity goes on.
