Jeeze people boycott over just about anything these days... There's so much going on in the world of gaming that really deserves our attention and you're worried about something like this?

Read the End-User License agreement and terms of service, and then tell me that this boycott is at all rational in the least. They cheated, Blizzard caught and banned them. End of story.

Why should you fight against someone because they are making sure that their game experience isn't ruined? If you're a cheater, you probably dont like this news, but if you're a cheater, I don't think you have much say!

Blizzard have my support. They are extremely community concious, and release a product when they think its ready, not when the time is up, in spite of being part of Activision!

No, I won't join you. I've never liked Blizzard anyway, and since someone else comes along years later and suddenly doesn't like them now, why should I join them?

Kind of disappointing. I don't play Star Craft, but if it did, it'd probably be single player. I just don't enjoy competitive play that much. And if I'm not playing against anyone, who am I hurting by using a program that only affects my enjoyment and experience? Someone earlier in this thread said cheaters are players without skill... well, maybe, but if I play the game by cheating by myself, I'm still going to get flattened whenever I decide to play multiplayer, so why does what I choose to do on my own bother you as long as I play by the rules when other players are involved?

I guess if not using these programs is in the EULA, then yeah, using them violates it, and as bunk a rule as it might seem to be, it's still their rule. Still sounds like something they might want to reconsider, especially if detection of these programs is automatic and doesn't actually have any influence on multiplayer.

I'm into ethical hedonism. Do what you want, and what makes you happy, as long as you accept the consequences, and as long as you aren't causing others harm. If that means you want to drink yourself into a coma or only eat cheezy poofs or cheat at a single player game, then go nuts. It doesn't hurt me or anyone I care about, so I really don't care what you do.

I would like to see someone with a lot of money take them to court for this, banning over a single player cheat is just fucking stupid. I can understand banning over multi-player cheaters but single player? Is it even legal?

Cheating is cheating. Suffer the consequences.

Play by the rules and you have nothing to worry about.

It's like getting a speeding ticket then campaigning to impeach the government.

Retarded.

It's more like purchasing a military test site, with giant FUCK OFF YOU WILL DIE IF YOU TRESPASS signs, clearly marking everything, making it impenetrable, then getting a speeding ticket for driving your jeep however fast you want inside it.

Heh, no, this is in no way boycott worthy. Maybe, maybe a teensy bit harsh to perma-ban people that only used cheats in the single player, but really... Ohnoes, a company followed through on banning people that infringed upon the EULA! Le gasp!

(apologies if someone else already linked this picture)

Frankly, I don't care how other people play their single player game. But these trainers can be used to cheat in the online multiplayer, or so I gathered, and that is unacceptable. What makes trainers worth it, anyway? What do they give you that the cheats Blizzard put in the game don't?
Like I've said, it's more than trainers. It's the fact that we cannot toy with our games.

Estarc said:
I never played online in the original StarCraft. But this system makes it so easy, and matches you up for the most part against players reasonably close to your own level. If the system was the same as that in the original StarCraft, I'd never go online.
I never had a problem with the old StarCraft playing online.

The achievements are part of the experience. For example, one achievement on the mission "The Dig" is to destroy 50 enemy buildings on what is essentially a defence map. The points I got for managing it are pointless, no pun intended. But the fact that the achievement was there drove me to strive to do just that. I had a lot of fun, and if not for the achievement would never have even tried doing that.
And what was fun about that? Like I've said before, achievements are rarely fun for me. They're there to strive you to do things you normally wouldn't but those things add nothing apart from an arbitrary score.

Estarc said:
I view the achievements as part of the experience. I don't get them so I can claim my e-penis is bigger than anyone else's. I get them because I enjoy doing so.
I find that hard to believe. Most of the time achievements involve grinding. Be it buildings, items or units. If you find grinding fun the props to you. Still, that is not enough of a reason to remove freedom from the players.

Estarc said:
Yes they are.
Grinding, I don't find fun. Neither do I find doing so for a score.

Estarc said:
Don't presume to know anything about me. I have never "flung my digital score" in anyone's face. Not guys I meet on the internet, not my friends, no one. I play games for my own enjoyment. With one or two exceptions, I prefer single player games, like RPGs.
Then why do you need something telling you you've achieved something? Can you not do that by your own? Or is the thrill of discovery not something new? The only reason achievements exists is to show your e-peen to everyone. There's no other reason for it. Unless, that is, you enjoy grinding. Also, you said you enjoy having portrays because they show people you managed to achieve something. It's obviously you WANT people to see you managed to achieve and honestly, that's not my beef with achievements. Like I've said before, I do not agree with sacrificing freedom for achievements. If Blizzard can find a way to keep freedom and also achievements then good for them. Otherwise, I will oppose them.

Estarc said:
That, my friend, is nothing more than your opinion. It is not a universal truth. It may be the truth for you, but not for me. The achievements are small things, it is true. There is no real difference beating the game on the hardest difficulty and getting an achievement, compared to doing the same on a game without them. But the achievement is what serves to motivate me. In other games, such as Bayonetta and Resident Evil 4, it is in game items. I prefer that method, but achievements get me motivated as well.
Good for you. Still, sacrificing freedom for achievements is something I cannot agree with.

Estarc said:
Anyway, ultimately I do not support banning people who use trainers from the game entirely. I think that a warning should be given for the first offence, along with a wipe of any earned achievements and stats. And repeat offenders should face a punishment no more severe than banning them from the multiplayer, while still giving them access to the single player.
Way to harsh. How about removing the achievements and leaving it at that unless they also cheated in the MP?

People using 3rd party programs to change game mechanics.

good luck convincing 15million people.

Let me know when you've got 3.
about eighty-3 have said yes.
How legitimate do you expect this poll to be when people out of spite or disregard for Blizzard, or who wouldn't buy a game from Blizzard regardless of this issue will pick boycott. If you want a real survey that you can quote try asking people with Battle.net accounts with recent games to take a poll and disallow anyone else.
I'm going to be honest here. If any boycott starts on the internet i NEVER take it seriously.

Last game I've bought from Blizzard was Warcraft 3 + expansion. Since then I've never purchased any Blizzard games, and not going too.

Mostly because I won't tolerate Battle.net. I have Steam, and Steam is enough. You force some shit system on me you go to hell.

If you don't want to get banned, don't cheat. I really don't give a shit if it's just single player, you are gaining achievement points and their associated rewards fraudulently. While I think a 2-4 week suspension and a complete wipe of your achievements would probably be a better solution, bans aren't really all that severe in my opinion.

THEY KILLED METAL ARMS!!!!

I cry at night...
I loved that game, but I was under the impression that Vivendi owns Blizzard, not the other way around.

I mean, I think Blizzard is one of their subsidiaries...

Vivendi stopped doing a lot of things after they acquired Acti-Blizz though, including tribes and other games I cared about...
