34DD US is average bra size. Or, at least, that's the more common answer on Google. There are multiple issues here, in part that even a lot of women don't know how to get a proper fitting bra. Ergo, it's usually based on who's purchasing what as specific stores and not on actual breast size.
But I was actually curious as to what he particularly had in mind. It really does seem as though the media has skewed our perception of what "big" and "small" are.

Eh, I've read 34DD, and I've read 36C. I also recall some discussion over how those numbers are meaningless, because a) not all women actually know their breast size and b) sometimes women buy the wrong bra size on purpose, either for comfort or for presentation.

Both are great. I don't really have to much of a preference either way, and on both ends of the scale I get really turned on. The middle, funnily enough, is probably where I prefer long term, even if short term they aren't as immediately... ahem... titillating... as the extremes.
That said, if I had to throw my vote one way, I'd go for smaller. You can't have breasts that are too small IMO. Even if they're washboard flat, on a girl I can still find that incredibly sexy. You can have breasts that are too large though, where they reach a point where they're not even attractive, they just look like giant floppy tumours coming off someone's chest. I don't think I've ever really seen an E cup, but as a general rule F cups can work on some girls, but usually, and always anything larger, they just look out of place, uncomfortable, and like they'd get in the way.
