I agree completely. But the problem is, a scary number of people don't see it that way. The hell of it is, if these same people started saying the same stuff about blacks or hispanics, they'd be called racist, and rightly so; but when it comes to the Japanese, suddenly it's okay. Isn't that a double standard?
Ironically, the Japanese are some of the biggest rascists in the world. And not only towards westeners.

Everything I see that is Japanese "culture" annoys me.

Though I'm pretty sure what I see is weeaboo culture and not actual Japanese culture.
That's it, pretty much.

Objectively, Japan certainly has its share of oddities (perhaps more than a lot of Western nations, as compensation in a somewhat more repressed society), but they're things even the Japanese will find odd. It's the weirdos on either side of the world that make it look like a cultural norm.

Naturally, I'm really wishing to go back there. I can ignore otaku on either side of the Pacific, no problem.

Japanese culture is Japanese culture.

I don't care what they do so long as no-one is harmed in the process, if they want pocky, anime and hentai then let them have mechs, samurai and horny teenage girls.

I'll be over here playing on my 360 and minding my own business.

You must have people smuggling shit into your house or something, because I don't recall forcing you to pay attention to anything you didn't want to.
Take a closer look at the screen name and post count.

I'd rather go/live somewhere in Western Europe myself...

But I love Japan, mostly for being so insane. They're like that crazy friend who you hang out with because your never sure what they'll do/come up with next.

Oh Japan, you so crazy.

to summise that weblink: # n Japan, more than 4000 men are arrested each year for groping on public transport.
# In 2001, a survey of two private high-schools in Tokyo revealed that more than 70% had been groped on the train.
# A recent survey of Japanese companies suggested that at least 17% of Japanese women have been groped in public.

however, i would still love to go to japan at some point. a minority of people are sick and depraved, but they have such an interesting culture.
I'd imagine that, Japanese trains being as crowded as they are, it's easy to misinterpret an accidental bump or something as a grope. Just playing devil's advocate.

I have nothing against japanese people nor their culture, what i do hate however are all the stupid white kids running around Thinking they are japanese people and they are a part of the culture because they dress like retards, use crazy amounts of hairspray and speak like they are some anime character.

Those, often called "Wapanese", really annoy the crap out of me.

Blacks and Hispanics are well-represented (relatively speaking) in American politics and population centers. Furthermore, Hispanic and African cultures are fairly similar (again, relatively speaking) to the American culture, at least in terms of thier overarching ethical and philosophical views.
By contrast, people of Japanese ancestry are much harder to find in America, and the Japanese culture is radically different from the American culture in a number of very meaningful ways. And since people instinctively fear the unknown, many Americans have come to hate the Japanese.

if that were the case where are the women being arrested, because everyone is prone to accidents. and pubs and clubs are all overcrowded, but how many people are arrested for groping in there, accidental or not.
but still, further on in the article it does mention women abusing it by saying they will fake a claim of groping to get cahs from a victim, so it's not impossible that some of those 4000 didn't do anything except annoy a vindictive woman.

People born of different cultures will have different beliefs and different values and different thoughts about what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. Some people may not accept those beliefs and values and some may. You'll find in life that not everyone is accepting of a person's culture regardless of what it is. Some people just can't get along. It doesn't mean that what they believe is 'wrong' for instance it's just... well... different for lack of a better and politically correct term.

Thoughts?

I never heard anyone say anything about the Japanese culture, but judging by the looks of your avatar, you are a proponent of their culture, therefore putting you in a position to hear more criticism. My advice to you would be, unless you are Japanese, try to focus on your OWN culture a little bit, and stop imitating Japan, and then maybe you won't hear so much criticism from people.

Or, you could take the other route, if you are deeply in love with the culture, and just not care what people think. Or, move to Japan.

You're trying to force people to pay attention by whining on the internet about how people are stopping you enjoying your manga/anime/Pocky. We'd have no negative ideas about Japanese culture if it wasn't for spergin' idiots like you vehemently defending it from nothing and nobody.
...since when does making a forum poll constitute as forcing it down your throat, if you dislike japanese culture than why the hell did you enter a thread ABOUT japanese culture??
