Here's something interesting about this particular section of Michelangelo's work -

That's supposed to be Adam on the left. However, if this is really supposed to be Adam, then why does he have a belly button? After all, he's the first man - meaning that he wasn't born, but was created (no umbilical cord). This was discussed on QI, for those interested in how I knew this.
I don't think Michelangelo was thinking that deeply about it (though the brain image casts doubt upon that theory), but it is rather interesting, now that you have pointed it out.

Well, I don't really like Jersey Shore, but it made me chuckle. Yes, it's sacrilegious and all that, but we have done much worse things with religious iconography.

Am I disgusted because the Sistine Chapel is the house of God? No.

Am I disgusted because the Sistine Chapel is a magnificent piece of architecture and art? Well, I'm not disgusted, but I'm slightly annoyed.

Does this provoke any sort of response from me? Not really.

I don't find the image that offensive, but then agin I find it even less amusing. MTV's pretentiousness and delusional belief that their content doesn't suck renders this image as pathetic and lame as evreything else associated with them. And Jersey Shore is the epitome of shit, sadly there are enough idiots out there to pay heed to it.

I'm so fucking tired of the fist bump.

So... subliminal image hidden by Michelangelo here... God is all in your brain? You choose to believe, but your choices aren't governed by some kind of deity up there, but by you, and you only?
Wow, mindfucked.
Michelangelo was all about the subliminal messages, that's what makes his work so interesting. Its not really 100% certain what exactly he was aiming for with them though, as that's the nature of subliminal messages. He was a professed Catholic and never said otherwise (although those in favor of the atheism view will point out there was nothing else he could profess in Rome).

The brain was almost certainly intentional, though again only a theory. Its been interpreted different ways. One is, of course, that he was saying that God is all in our head and the true 'creation' is the meeting of man and mind. Another is that God's greatest creation is the human brain. Another is that God's 'seat', so to speak, is in the brain of man, and he exists within us. Its really open to interpretation.

My favorite 'fuck you' subliminal message of his is The Last Judgment.

It was intended that the Pope of the time was to sit beneath this fresco, and Michelangelo's disagreements and disapproval of Pope Julius II were well documented. At the bottom you'll notice a dark cave, which was meant to be the entrance to Hell. So basically, the Pope was sitting directly in front of THE MOUTH OF HELL. Subtle. Michelangelo also painted his face on Zachariah, who was sitting in front of an angel that was giving him the middle finger of that time period. Oh and the whole thing is arranged in a way that was unconventional at the time, intentionally mimicking the then understood scientific arrangement of the solar system.

Michelangelo was awesome.

EDIT: And again, if the above isn't evidence enough, I'm not offended by religious imagery being used in advertising. I'm offended that one of the greatest and most significant works of art in history is being used to advertise Jersey Shore. When its done with the FSM, I'm not offended (at least that one is legitimately well painted), or even when its done with E.T. However, fuck Jersey Shore and fuck fist-bumps.

My opinion.[/sub]
