I think that it's a little bit unfair really, it seems alright though because he's cool with it and in a few months he won't have a limit.

But still, sport has winners and has losers, we've all lost matches thanks to one person, we've all won matches too [this is real life competitive sports by the way] , how would you like it if you were playing TF2 and got dropped from a server for having 3 dominations in a match, kinda similar situation in a gamer environment.


Though at the end of the day the kid is cool with it, and he's one of those cute lil black guys that you just wanna dress in a suit ..... (or just me?)

Was ready to rage when I read the headline but actually was ok with it after reading the whole thing. He still gets to play and score (though be it with a limitation). Also he'll be back to dong his unlimited thing in the following season.

We did the same kind of thing in the house football league we ran. Players were not allowed to run or receive the ball after scoring two touchdowns. Since it was house league, and the goal was to build skills in players for rep. / have fun it made perfect sense to keep the stars under control.

Frankly, if I was so good at something they needed to fit me with a handicap I would feel pretty good but a little annoyed.

Wait... a KID, in a SOUTHERN STATE, got in trouble for being TOO GOOD AT A SPORT...

Yeah even it up. If you go all out against a seven-year-old, playing Scrabble, he may learn a couple of things (you won't learn anything), but mostly it's just boring and pointless. The same applies to any mismatch of abilities, unless it's something like professional competition, where everyone is on generally equal footing in terms of preparation and resources, and any achievements should reflect an approach that the rest of us can learn from (as a proven concept).

It seems relatively simple to me.

The goal of the league is for young kids to learn and play football.
He is preventing the other children from playing football.
He is working against the expressed purpose of the league.


If the article is truthful, he is so good they are NO LONGER playing football. Young kids can have large enough gaps in talent for that to happen.

In a few years, even if he still dominates the league he plays in, the other kids will have improved enough that they are still playing a recognizable game of football.

I can kinda understand implementing the rule for that kid. If a single player can score seven times in a little league game (which is probably no more than half as long as a high school/middle school/college) it can be extremely demoralizing for the other team.
The rule they implemented with the kid is like the 'mercy' rule some little leagues use where they call the game if it gets entirely one-sided.

This is the kind of rule my baseball little league had for any ages under high school. If it got to the top of the 5th inning (we only played 6 at that age) and one team was up by 10 or more, they called the game.

In this case, at first I was a little upset, but I don't really think it's that bad. The kid is fine with it and it sounds like he only has to deal with it for one more year. Besides, the coach can give other players a chance to play in that situation so they can gain more experience, since this kid's abilities probably won't suffer with a little less playing time. Or as someone else suggested, move him to a new position.

this sort of rule is pretty much necessary, kids develop at such different rates that something to give the little ones a chance is really needed. Hell if this sort of thing existed when I was a kid I might even have gotten to play.( I was 6 inches and 20lbs under my peers)

My baseball little league had that rule as well, which I experienced from the loosing end. I had a game get called at the bottom of the fourth (we played to the sixth) and my team was down eleven or twelve to zero. At the time I was a little grateful that the game ended when it did.

Those are little kids. For most of them you don't know what their "talent level" is yet because they're still developing. This kid now, obviously he does have a lot of talent. Believe me, running around on his own with the ball won't help him reach "his highest level". He'd need to be playing against people who offer him an actual challenge for that. And while he's running around on his own with the ball, everyone else on the team is being actively hindered from reaching their highest level, whatever it is.

And once that kid moves up to another league, they'll be left with a whole team who can't play football because they never had a chance to play.

Nothing bad about that. What's bad is when those who happen not to be very best are kept from developing their potential. And when people forget how team sports work.

Personally, knowing that there was an official rule made just so people could have a chance when fighting against you, that would be incredibly awesome.

That is the single most idiotic thing i've ever heard it's like saying to a kid getting good grades "your doing just a tad to well we'll just change some A's to D's to even out".

Well, they actually do that, in a manner of speaking. Oftentimes a bright kid will be approached by the teacher for being too far ahead of the rest of the class and asked to dial it down.

so he hasn't been perma banned, just if he has already scored a few times and his team is winning by a fair margin. can see why they introduced it but it's shame he can't play to his full potential.
