Because they deserve to have a long and fulfilling life?
Also think of the media shitstorm that would happen if a game where you could kill children came out
And this is exactly why. Remember the controversy over "No Russian" (CODMW2)? That, and I suspect that the game companies don't want to add fuel to the "Video games = Violence" argument for fear that they will be out of a job.

It no more wrong then flat out murdering the other tons of dudes int he game. I mean, its not like the game gives you the option to ask them to surrender or to try and talk it out, it just has you murder everyone who gets in the way. Still, the odd observation that some people have with murdering children and creating mods to allow it is... disturbing.
At least, they get that out of their system in games and not real life...though that raises the argument about "adult entertainment" building on to people's fantasies until they become so dulled to it that the simulation is no longer enough and they choose to enact those fantasies in reality. Though, while that is tragic, I think the majority of people don't go that far (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong with an intelligent response, plz don't flame). I mean, if that's what they want to do in a virtual world then that's fine, as long as it doesn't change over in to the real world. Also, many serial killers start by harming small animals as children. Just thought I'd add that in as an example of the argument. Like I said, at least the majority of people who want to are getting that desire out virtually and not in real life.
OT: I do things in video games that I can't or won't (b/c of consequences) in real life, like driving like a maniac (GTA), saving the galaxy (ME), exploring the wild west (RDR), etc. Since I don't have any desire to harm children so the inability to do so in games doesn't bother me.
