Oh my god, you have no idea how many times I killed that poor kid in LIMBO, unless you've played the game then, well...you probably do!

if a kid is killed in a movie no one yells and the director for it. But a game, its like a mortal sin

Wish you could in Fable 2 you could kill your wife but no you couldn't kill the kids
Yahtzee pointed that one out in his Fable 2 review

they're not real. besides its not like i want there to be a game where the object of the game is to murder as many children as possible. its ment in addition to killing adults(which somewhere down the line became perfectly acceptable for some reason)
The media don't care about the point of the game, if you ask anyone in England who knows nothing about gaming what GTA was about, they'd probably say, oooh it's about having sex with prostitutes then killing them to get your money back because even though thats a small and completely optional bit of the game in which you don't even get told you can do it...well, let's face it, the media love making a fuss about everything.

I dont know, Telling a 10 year old kind their dad is Ant grub and then telling them to fuck off when they ask you for help so that they will wander the dc wasteland before starving to death in the middle of nowhere is pretty cruel too.

It would be just as immoral as killing anyone in a video game. It's just sheep minded people would outrage at it.

Funny how no news stations rage at young teenagers in JRPGs having to battle monsters to stay alive.

I wouldn't have a problem with the inability to kill kids in games...that is, if they weren't consistently, and without fail, the most irritating simulations of human children available.

But yeah, I find it's only unnecessary until those children are insufferable little brats, or can shoot you, a la Fallout 3.

It's bad enough when a game features invincible characters, but it's like game designers are out to make invincible children the most insufferable characters they can.
We've clearly stumbled upon the Bethesda conspiracy: Make us hate the children, so we modify the game and kill the children.
Brilliant.

Slightly more on-topic: No, I don't have a problem with killing children in a game. They're not real, so on and so forth.
I don't ever really have the drive to do so, though. After all, they are children.
Who aren't real.
Now my head hurts.

They're just artificial programs, running on electrical circuits. The end effect is that they are, well, non-important (and I'm not talking plot specific). It's no different from doing the same to any other person/creature in a video game.

I haven't encountered any game on the PC where I can kill children (have played F3, but I didn't like it so it doesn't counts).

But it would be fun to be able to do it in some games, I hate children you see...

It no more wrong then flat out murdering the other tons of dudes int he game. I mean, its not like the game gives you the option to ask them to surrender or to try and talk it out, it just has you murder everyone who gets in the way. Still, the odd observation that some people have with murdering children and creating mods to allow it is... disturbing.

And this is exactly why. Remember the controversy over "No Russian" (CODMW2)? That, and I suspect that the game companies don't want to add fuel to the "Video games = Violence" argument for fear that they will be out of a job.

At least, they get that out of their system in games and not real life...though that raises the argument about "adult entertainment" building on to people's fantasies until they become so dulled to it that the simulation is no longer enough and they choose to enact those fantasies in reality. Though, while that is tragic, I think the majority of people don't go that far (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong with an intelligent response, plz don't flame). I mean, if that's what they want to do in a virtual world then that's fine, as long as it doesn't change over in to the real world. Also, many serial killers start by harming small animals as children. Just thought I'd add that in as an example of the argument. Like I said, at least the majority of people who want to are getting that desire out virtually and not in real life.

OT: I do things in video games that I can't or won't (b/c of consequences) in real life, like driving like a maniac (GTA), saving the galaxy (ME), exploring the wild west (RDR), etc. Since I don't have any desire to harm children so the inability to do so in games doesn't bother me.

Such games exist, and have existed for a long time.

There is no reason that kids should be unkillable. It's just fucking stupid.

Part of the reason I got Fallout 3 for the PC was so I could kill the damn Little Lamplighters.

I don't know how many times I find the most annoying child in a game, only to find out that he's unkillable. I remember that little french child in Fable. So damn happy go lucky, and wouldn't shut up. Yet even though I can slaughter hords of monsters, children are a force far mightier than me.
So no, it's not wrong. If I can kill everything else, then I should be able to kill them too. If I can't, then that's discrimination. as a child, I feel discriminated against!

You don't kill babies in dead space. Come on, people, any type of zombie is fair play. You can't kill something that's already dead.

It's a game. People need to get that. We play games to escape the reality of the real world. There's absolutely no reason why you should not be able to kill children in games.

Games have already come out where children get killed. Xenosaga had antagonists and protagonists killing children in both gameplay and the actual plot, yet somehow the world didn't end. It even got a T rating. Media is going to throw a hissyfit about things no matter what you do, don't censor yourself just because the media might get angry, they're ALWAYS angry. Besides, the media being angry = free advertising for your game and people buying it because it's "controversial". How many of you had heard of Rapelay before people started bitching about it?
