Dude you haven't really been listening then have you. Personally I'd say since 2008 music has never been more exciting as far as variety and sheer volume over time. And if you can't see past a few dance numbers to the positive side of the Lady Gaga show then you have no right to critique at all.StonkThis said:I hate her. I hate her music. The fact that you compared her to Michael Jackson makes me want to curb stomp your face, and I'm not even a big fan of him, although all is songs are pretty good. It might be because I hate 90% of music from this time, (It seems to have started around 2008) because most of it is the same poppy shit. People have become so simple minded that they don't even listen to the lyrics. I took a poll in one of my classes, barely anyone sincerely listens and thinks about the lyrics. That makes me sick, music shouldn't be like this and the fact that it has 'devolved' to this makes me disgusted... Those are my thoughts...
"We hate to love, but love to hate" perhaps? Anymore it seems that people are defining themselves less by shared passions and more by which elements of pop culture they can't stand - hatred is trendy! Plus it shows that you're part of the counterculture, and being counter-cultural is essentially a core part of the Escapist's user culture, heh.The_root_of_all_evil said:Lady Gaga is swiftly overtaking Twilight as most often used as a basis for a new thread here.
That's gotta say something.
I don't really know about Indie, but Metal is quite popular here, so one wouldn't really need forgiveness for assuming such, what with it being true and all.joethekoeller said:We, as a gaming community, have a fair share of people who despise mainstream games with some worrying degree of passion, but mainstream music? That's a whole new level of "haters gonna hate". Considering all the loud-mouthed verbal beating it gets, one could be forgiven for thinking that metal and indie were far more popular around these parts.

Yup, just like Soldier boy and the Jonas brothers.Johnnyallstar said:She's entertaining, but with the auto-tuning and the less than original musical style, she's a passing fad.
I've heard Lady Gaga songs. I've listened. I've hated them regardless. I haven't watched the videos. You'd have to force me to do that, so that can't be my bias. And if you think music is better than it used to be, I hate you so much...ShaqLevick said:StonkThis said:I hate her. I hate her music. I don't know how anyone could watch a video like this and still claim she has no talent. I mean, even if you HATE her current style (which is completely understandable), to say she's a "terrible musician" or can't sing is just ignorant flame-bait.lilmisspotatoes said:Agreed. Lady Gaga is actually very talented vocally, as seen here, before she was famous:
Personally, I find her music to be very same-y, but I do enjoy songs like "Brown Eyes" and "Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)".
I've heard her sing live and acoustically. She certainly doesn't use technology to improve her voice anymore than most other artists do, and that's only usually done to improve recording quality. Her live voice is miles better than her recorded one.JamesJackWalshe said:Snipples.
I saw that on TV Tropes and loved it. I wish she still did performances like that. Watching it and looking at her now, its almost like the girl in that video died and Lady Gaga replaced her, they're just so very different.lilmisspotatoes said:Agreed. Come on, of what could you possibly be considering the golden age of music. The 70's or hell even the 90's all very memorable but my options were so limited to the corporate structure of things. Or compared to this very day where a new artist is just a click away, from every corner of the globe in any language spoken... I refuse to believe the best has come and gone especially when hundreds of albums are released every month. Then again some people are just set in their ways, and of course I couldn't hold that against anyone. Be faithful that retro in one form or another is always in fashion, and one day my friend your time will come.StonkThis said:I've heard Lady Gaga songs. I've listened. I've hated them regardless.
