Air. With air, you can practically control any other element. Got a fire? You can blow it out, or even burn it out. Water? Pretty easy, just surround it with fats moving air, and you got it. Earth? Taken advantage of cracks in the earth,and you can push it around whichever way you want.

Air would be the element I want to use, because it is everywhere and has the most practical applications.

However, if I lived in that world, I would want to learn firebending because it is stylistically the coolest bending form to me.

I was having a difficult time picking between earth and water but then I thought "If I can control water, I can

Also, I don't understand why people say the movie "fixed" the problem with fire-bending. So, the they need an actual fire now? How did they obliterate the Air Nomads if the latter (and the rest of the benders) had a nearly unlimited supply of their element. Even with the ability to make a fire from your fists, the other nations have been putting out their candles since 1999.
