I don't use "lol" anymore except in rare occasions where I actually do.

I often do some corrupted form like "Lulz" to show I'm amused at something.

Otherwise, outside of making fun of people, I don't use netspeak.

I only use a few of them when I'm texting on my phone and I am running out of space for that text. Otherwise, I avoid them. Sometimes, I'm not even sure what some of the ones people use even mean. I really hate that. It's like someone throwing in words from some arcane language that I don't know for no real good reason. Especially on forums like this where you have pretty much all the space you need.

All the time lol. AMGZ I SAID LOL.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

Alright, outta' my system... yes. Not in regular chat though, as if I'm speaking face to face. That'd just be stupid.

I mainly type LULZ instead of Ha Ha, cus' thats just stupid. It gives you more lulz when someone else lulz at something thats lulz. Get my drift?

I do find it slips in accidentally when talking face to face with someone and I just end doing a /facepalm.
Capitalization does not piss me off so to speak as in txt speak or IM'ing I tend to not bother.
When it's in IM I couldn't care less. Face to face.. if its funny then FREAKING LAUGH!
Anyone who says "lol" over vent or face to face should diaf.
Personally I'm more of a spelling Nazi.

This comes to mind.

I am a Grammar Nazi at heart, and every time I see lazy shortcuts like "netspeak" my urge to grow a little moustache increases.

I use them online, I've actually been known to use them (and smileys) a hell of a lot on here, as well as on the Escapist IRC. That said, I do hate it when people use them 4chan-style, but dropping a 'lol' or ':)' into a post occasionally isn't a problem for me...

Internet speak doesn´t really bother in this context (i.e. in the internet.), except when used excessively. The only one I tend to use is "WTF", but even then a healthy amount of self-irony is included. It´s just that, most of the time I don´t even know what these abbreviations mean, let alone use them. Guess I´m getting old. What really irritates me, however, is when internet speak invades to spoken language. I mean, dear people, it´s called internet speak.

i don't use them at all but if others do that's fine as long as it isn't over used. a friend sent me a text once and after EVERY sentence he put 'lol'. it got very annoying. anyone that puts 'haha' (or some variation thereof, like 'hehe') gains instant bonus points, but if they use lol, provided it's not too much, i won't hold it against them.

I never use them. I don't care at all if other people use them but once it starts getting excessive and half the sentence is an acronym it has gone too far.

So without using 'lol' how would you show some emotion to a humorous post? Would you seriously type laugh out loud out or do you just not do anything of the sort?

I would type that I found it amusing.
