using ME2 as an example, i buy the DLC that adds to the game (LOSB, New vehicle ones, etc (pending Arrival)), but not the ones that add stuff that should've already been there, like new outfits and guns.

thats generally my attitude to DLC, though if editions including all DLC are available, i usually get those.

If I like the DLC, I will buy it. Alan Wake, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 (though I'm very disappointed in Arrival). Hell, I paid $15 for ONE map on Black Ops. I hate the multiplayer, but I love the zombie mode and its story, so I had to get that. Going to do it again when the next pack comes out.

I only get DLC if it adds something worthwhile to the game, like Fallout 3 DLC, i.e. extra map with its own little storyline, not like Fable 3 DLC which is just crap like potions for changing your dog or extra dyes for clothes.

CoD DLC, Halo DLC, Fallout DLC, Oblivion DLC, if I want it I'll buy it. I don't see DLC as being overpriced, either. If you can afford the £250 game console, the £50 game, and the £40 per month Broadband package, you can afford £10 for DLC - at least that's how I see it.
Just because you can afford it doesn't mean it's good value.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed comes with four DLC packs. Two of them are just character skins and absolutely worthless. So much so I don't even remember the cost. There are also two dlc missions, Hoth and Coruscant. Just one extra mission, $10. A peice. Fuck that.

I'm not going to lie, I bought DLC for The Sims 3 before I wizened up and just started downloading custom content. Some of the stuff on there is pretty decent, but I have to say, I didn't stop buying DLC because it's expensive, I stopped buying DLC because EA needs to stop milking people with more money than sense, and release a god damned expansion pack that actually has content, and isn't full of bugs. /tangent

I haven't bought any Call of Duty map packs since World at War, at least those where good and came at a fair price. Normally I like DLC because it prolongs the fun I have with my games. Mass Effect 2 did this well... on some parts. Lair of the Shadow Broker, Arrival and Kasumi: Stolen memory where all good and came at a modest price, even the extra weapons DLC was awesome, but the character skins was pretty useless, or at least I think it is, I haven't bought it yet.

I usually completely refuse to buy DLC. Most of it is overpriced crap that just doesn't measure up to the quality of the rest of the game, since it's rushed out to maximize profit. Of course this isn't always the case, look to Undead Nightmare for Red Dead Redemption, or any of the Mass Effect DLC to see games that are doing it right, but the majority of game DLC is crap.

For some reason i find all DLCs too expensive. I know i can usually get a decent used game for the same price (roughly 10$). So everytime I'm about to buy a DLC, i remember that a full game, even if it's a bit outdated > DLC.

$5 a map is a reasonable price as far as I'm concerned. I never understood why people get upset over this.

Black Ops. I love the MP, but I'll be damned if I'm paying 1,200 Microsoft Points for the sake of some maps and no other in-game content.

That's a few indie games, a couple of pieces of good DLC for another game, a few movies.. It could be any number of other things.

800? I'd grudgingly pay, but I'd want the maps to add something, and not be just more sniper-proof clusterfucks.

My question is this; have you ever had this experience, where you've wanted/semi wanted the DLC, but have purposefully 'voted with your wallet', and not bought it because it felt insultingly priced?

For the record, I've spent about 30,000 Microsoft points in my time. I'm no stranger to buying things I want, but I know when I feel something is put at too high a premium.
No, I've never not bought something because it was "insultingly priced." it's their stuff, they get to sell it for whatever they want. Also, you're not hurting anyone but yourself by not buying it. They know dang well what price to set it at so that they make the most money.

I pretty much refuse to buy map packs until they're made free.
I hope you like waiting, heh.

OT: I've never really had the thought "It's too expensive". Rather, I think "The dollar/gameplay ratio is too low".

There is a difference between the two, believe it or not. I'll gladly shell out 15$ for DLC as long as I feel that I'm getting around my money's worth.

I have never paid money for a map.

Ever.

But I have bought the Mass Effect 2 expansions, because they're actual expansions and not, y'know, maps that I could fart out in a week with a half decent dev kit.

Here's how i look at it.
Knights of the Nine (Oblivion expansion pack) hours of gameplay and a greatly expanded world- 800 MS points
CoD Map Pack, a handful of multiplayer maps (Sometimes zombie map)- 800 or 1200 MS points

Unless it's worth the money, i won't buy it.

I have never looked at any DLC an though to myself "Hmm, Can I really afford that?". I have a good job, I earn a decent wage, I guess a few quid really isn't that much of an issue to me.

If I really want a DLC, I'm not too concerned about the price. If it's something I'm on the fence about, like buying Jill/Shuma in MvC3, the price can make or break it for me.

Well I haven?t ever not bought a DLC specifically to protest but if its something I don?t think is value for money I won?t get it even if I do want it. I don?t usually buy skins, bonus weapons/armor or map packs because they are usually overpriced IMO.
