I think manga is a legitimate art form along film and book, there is no real argument against that.

Think Ozuma Tezuka, think Naoki Urasawa. Just these two examples of authors should prove beyond doubt that manga should be ranked along other "legitimate" forms.

Just as you get pulp books ond films (twilight, i'm looking at you) you get shit manga's. Go read a classic.

I enjoy a good manga, but never when its in English - translation has ruined many a brilliant manga.

Oh being bilingual with Japanese is so great sometimes X3

Hey, I buy Manga! I just prefer reading something in my hand and physically turning the page. It kinda takes away part of the experience when I read it online, but thats just my preference. But, I do watch anime on the internet.
Oh, yes, I much prefer turning the page too. But if I can get it for free, what's a little preference to paying 20 bucks?
You pay 20 bucks for manga? Shit, I get mine from a local used/new comic store for about 5 dollars in near mint condition.
Oh no. No, no, no. It's just that some is expensive. I get mine used from Amazon, bu all I have is all 9 Hellsings.

But I'll stick to Anime, more than Manga, probably.
Since I usually watch/read whatever came first, I tend to not like anime as much if its an adaptation from Manga just like a book to film adaptation. And I espesially don't like shitty english dubs. I admit, some English dubs are good, but I would much rather prefer reading subtitles.

Although, I usually love original anime shows/movies that weren't adapted from anything like Tenchi Muyo, Akira, or Spirited Away.

I'm not sure why people dislike/hate manga, they're just comic books from japan

Except manga deal with different eviroments (other than super heros) they contain thrilling stories and beautiful art styles.

because of this i don't see them as childish.

Eh, I tried one. Very vague, very hard to make things out and I had to read it from right to left.

Headache inducing!

They love Manga, therefore, they are going to move to Japan and be revered as Gods for their knowledge of the Japanese culture and be socially accepted by everyone, what's so hard to understand?

Saying you like manga is just like saying you like books; your not gonna like everything you read so you can't really generalise it like that.

Though I do enjoy reading the Bleach / Naruto / One Piece manga weekly.

I read both normal books and mangas. I love mangas when I want something to read that doesn't require me to imagine everything and to enjoy the art work.

I read both "normal books" and manga. I usually read books but sometimes a good manga comes along and I like to read it.

Anyway, they start reading Manga and i'm sitting on a big group table during break reading a proper book (IMO). I don't understand the appeal, i kinda think Manga and comic's are very childish and don't help reading very well because you don't get your own imagination etc etc.
Ah, I kinda agree with you there. It's the same with graphic novels. They restrict imagination SO much, I can't stand reading them. They should just be television shows instead. :p

So I herd u liek walls of text. Me too.

My only complaint is that if they aren't coloured (which they generally aren't), I can never tell what the hell is going on. There's just not enough distinction in the different parts of the image for me to get it without staring at it for a while.

Also, I always get screwed up and start reading left to right partway through.

It should go left to right, it would make it easier to read
True, but it would mean reversing the pages, distorting the artist's original intention.

I personally love manga to bits.

Generalising isn't good, comics and manga are very valid forms of entertainment.
The way you talk about imagination, it's like you think having eyes is a negative thing.

I went through a phase of loving manga, then not really bothering, now I read it on/off, I enjoy stuff like Hajime No Ippo, Berserk, Beck and the odd bit of Deathnote. Read a bit of Ichi The Killer too, but its a bit too weird for me lol.

I personally enjoy manga. I also an avid reader of books as well. It's understandable that you may not like manga, and your post was reasonable until "Manga and comics are very childish..."

Holy crap, did you just say manga was childish? Sure, there's plenty of that fluffy romance that seem to recycle the same basic plot points, and plain old action targeted at older boys and young men that tend to have a plot about as deep as my ankle, but there's plenty of stuff that is NOT intended for children.

I would dare say not suitable for most adults, either.
