I like them, but it's very selective these days, since Naruto and Bleach are more flashback and filler than anything else, so you have to dig to find anything decent (Kino's Journey, Hellsing, R.O.D. OAV, IMO).
In fact, I go to art school for sequential art, and my work is both American and manga influenced, but you know what?
I HATE THE ANIME/MANGA FANBASE.
I know it's probably the same in annoyance as a stereotypical fat, smelly trekkie, but at least they speak English (unless it's Klingon). I would like to punch every person who arbitrarily ends their sentences in "desu". I feel like I'm going to be like Miyazaki, working on what I love while hating my fans at the same time. It's not like ALL the fans are bad (after all, I consider myself one, doing research on the series' I enjoy and finding a level of intellectual enlightenment in the ideas they offer, say, if it's based on a certain mythology, I use it as a springboard to read into mythology further, while also allowing other people to speak if, say, the disagree with my fandom, it's a free country). Fans who keep things in moderation and aren't stupid jerks to people, basically.
Also, weird hair colors are weird. Unless their hair has been dyed, stop giving people naturally blue hair unless there's a really good reason.
At the same time, I hate how America likes to generalize anime/manga style to pointy chins and huge eyes; I believe manga is a form of storytelling. After all, when people mention American comics, they probably think about huge muscle men in tights, and we know that's not EVERYTHING here (at least, I hope not).
I guess what I'm saying here is I really dislike the general stupidity a lot of people have attached to anime/manga, but it's got a lot of great stuff to offer, if you just keep your eyes open.
