and asif you got a dictionary explination of drugs ... you really didn't need to go to all that effort all you had to say was "we're not idiots" 3 words have explained all what you said.
So just because I know what a few words mean, I must have used a dictionary? Wonderful logic there friend. I wasnt trying to insult anyone, or anyones intelligence, so I dont understand why you are. I merely pointed out a few things that are common knowledge, or atleast would be if people took the time to read a little on the subject.
If those of you against it really feel that stongly about it, then do youself a favour, go tear down all of that beautiful art, burn all of that literature, and most importantly, bin all of your favourite music, then you wont be a hypocrite.
(Oh noes, I almost quoted Bill Hicks, going to try and bring me down with another poorly concieved arguement? Go right ahead, I cant help it if the guy had a point.)

Again, I'll keep smoking it regardless. Not out of spite, or social disobedience, but simply because, last time I was in school they taught me that we are all (read: ALL) free people. Able to make our own choices in life, yet there are more rules and regulations in place than ever before.

Ok, so I recommend to stop using the term marijuana. This term was originally coined to be racial term for Mexicans.

There is no valid argument against why Grass shouldn't be legal over say alcohol or tobacco, you'll find if you look back to when these laws were made it was very tied up in propaganda (the reason why most people are ill informed now). It is ridiculous to say that the law is 100% right as amphetamine was legal long after cannabis and is much more harmful.

Now if you excuse me, i'm going for a burn :D

D4zZ I am not really sure what you mean exactly, but I'll try and make a good reply :).

Even though language changes and a word becomes acceptable to use, that doesn't mean that it's original meaning isn't remembered. I'm pretty sure the N word is still offensive, even though it is widely used with black communities, and it has been around a lot longer than the term marijuana.

It's really opinion of what's acceptable to use. I don't mind any racial slurs either against me or anyone else.

However if I found "marijuana" offensive and then the term changed into something totally different which alot of people fight for (as in legalising it), I highly doubt id tell people to stop using the word for that meaning that wasn't meant to be offensive.

A drug being illegal to use or buy discourages addicts from seeking treatment and causes social stigma. There's not much evidence that prohibition actually affects rates of use very much and it ends up filling prisons with non-violent offenders at much cost to the state and foregone productivity for society, not to mention harm to the offenders themselves.

More generally, why should the government concern itself with personal choices about consumption that impact only one's self and not others?

I don't care one way or another ... sure, it could help to boost the economy but I wouldn't know -shrug-

As Kat Williams says, the only side effects of weed are: hungry, happy, sleepy. The government doesn't want it legal because people can grow it themselves and won't have to pay taxes.

The law rarely influences what I do or don't do. All I would ask is that if we are to be serious about making things illegal, perhaps we should not be so half assed with regard to our laws about it.

As a general rebuttle to anyone saying anything about addiction, marijuana isn't physicially addictive. At all.

Yes. It's no different than alcohol, really.
Legalizing it would cripple a huge portion of illegal-drugs trade. And you could tax the living bejesus out of it.

It's a great idea. If we legalize it, then it will be taxed like crazy, and since so many people do it anyway, it will boost the economy.

How is it no different then alcohol? Marijuana just makes you stupid, whereas alcohol gives you liver problems. In my opinion, alcohol is worse then pot, and they are quite different if you look at it.

I'm firmly of the opinion that all narcotics, no matter how extreme, should be legalized.

As such, I support the legalization of Marijuana. I also support the legalization of cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and any other form of illicit substance.

If people are dumb enough to use these substances and get addicted, I feel no sympathy for them.

In addition, I strongly believe the government has no right to control what people do to themselves. And since narcotics do no damage to anyone but the person using it, the government should get the fuck out of trying to limit them.
...
People on drugs steal and murder for or because of drugs. It ruins poeple and societies. You can't just let everyone do what they want to themselves. Suicide should not be legal. People almost never know what's best for them because of conflicting emotions and mentalities.

as I non user of the drug I haven't much to say besides it's pathetic how much money criminals make off of it, how much Governments spend on combating it, punishing people, and running prisons full of stoners.

I mean what people do to their own body is their own business, as for kids you can only teach them so much and they will either smoke pot or not.

The point is if it was legalized and regulated like tobacco and Alcohol it would wrench power from criminals, save if not make billions of dollars across sales, and saving costs of holding prisoners in jail to be put back into education, health care whatever. No ones pointing guns at people to get them to smoke it. The only people getting hurt are in the crossfire of the legal issues over a silly drug.

You have no right to make that decision. It isn't about people knowing what's best for themselves. That's never going to happen. It's about the government staying the fuck out of things it has no business being a part of. The only part of what you said the government has any right to interfere in is when someone assaults someone else for drug money. That's it.

On the topic of suicide, if someone wants to kill themselves, so be it. Suicide harms no one but themselves, so neither you, me, the police, nor the government have any right to interfere with it.

When have you ever heard of someone killing to get drug money for weed? I think you might have been indoctrinated into that "all drugs are evil" view, while drugs like Cocaine and Heroin can cause addiction and crime levels the same is rarely if ever true for cannabis because 1. Its not addictive and 2. When you smoke it you get philosophical, clumsy and lazy not violent or dangerous.

Ya, but he was talking about all of the drugs. I didn't necessarily mean weed.

There's not really a way to argue this, but like I said, people don't know what's best for them. Drugs can destroy societies; they've done it before. I think it would be better for everyone if we made them all illegal (I vote 3rd option: make pot legal, but bio engineer a virus that kills it).
