I didn't realy enjoy Bioshock that much, and whilst Dead Space is a fantastic game, I have to recommend Mass Effect. It's a fantastic story well told with some solid mechanics.

So I have been considering buying either Bioschok, Dead Space or the first Mass Effect recently, and wanted to know which you escapists would recommend as being the better game.

Bear in mind I don't care about price and I will be playing on PC.

Thanks in advance.

And YES, I took ages thinking of a way of combining the game names.

EDIT: The typo in the poll was OBVIOUSLY deliberate.
To let you know now, most of these sex-crazed guys are voting Mass Effect (2) because of the sex scenes, but if you want a good game then I'd recommend Bioshock because the ways you can torture enemies are so intuitive it's amazing! Are you gonna whack them silly or spring their security systems on them? It's up to you! Now, I never played the other two so I don't actually KNOW if Mass Effect (2) is a good game. Note that the action/gameplay may be fine but the winner of that choice may be M.E. because of the sex scenes.

Mass Effect is pretty boring and old tech if you're on PC it's dissapointingly low res. Gameplay wise I got pretty bored running around the stupid Citadel - just got the Normandy for my own use and it's too late, I've moved on to better games.

Dead Space - I love this game. Awesome. Intense action lots of fun has upgrading.

BioShock - Good game. I found the gameplay (combat) of the first one to be somewhat okish but I really liked the gameplay of BioShock 2.

Mass Effect > Bioshock > Dead Space

Mass Effect is my third favorite RPG of all time, only behind KOTOR and Baldur's Gate II. I'd pick up that before the other 2, because while Bioshock and Dead Space are both awesome games, they're just not nearly as awesome as Mass Effect. Just a word of advice if you do pick it up, don't bother exploring planets with the Mako unless there's an obvious side quest there. It's not worth the aggravation.

The first Mass Effect sure. The second is a good third person shooter, but I wouldn't say it's anything but decent, with a ridiculously grinding upgrade system that they pretty much used to replace leveling and getting different weapons and armor. Oh, I also went through the entire game on Insane as an infiltrator never using any abilities.

I love Mass Effect, it's great fun making Shepard the ugliest bastard ever to be birthed, then act like a complete wanker and STILL have two girls chasing you around.
Oh yeah, and there's a great story, brilliant character exposition and development blah blah blah. It's pure Bioware gold.

The closest you ever get to a sex scene in ME1 is a bit of sideboob. That's literally it. ME2 has one scene where you see a chick in a bra. That's as far as they go.

Mass Effect is in all actuality a fantastic RPG, which is why a lot of people voted for it.

Mass Effect is the only western RPG I've ever enjoyed, I love it and its great story.

Bioshock has some very clever things to say about the gaming industry and the very nature of videogames in general. It is a must play for any gamer clever enough to understand metaphors. EDIT: It's worth noting that Bioshocks gunplay isn't actually that fun

Dead Space is truly great, even though not everyone agrees with me. I think it blends a scary environment and a brilliantly fun and tense combat system perfectly.

Since you're apparently only buying one for now, I'd reccomend Mass Effect as it has the most engaging story

ME2 is the only one I have played out of those that were listed, so naturally I voted for that :).

Mass Effect. By a mile. Bioshock I loved, dead space I HATED, but nothing has ever made me sit on my couch and forget there is a real world like mass effect. Truly a game of epic greatness.

Mass Effect, without question. One of the best games I've ever played (and the sequel addresses every issue I had with the first).

BioShock is reasonably fun to play and has good atmosphere, but I found it extremely unsatisfying. Upon finishing it there was no feeling of wanting more or feeling of contentment, I just put it back in the case, put the case back on the shelf and haven't touched it since. This is coming from a guy who owns maybe 3 games (out of about 100) that he hasn't played through at least twice.

As for Dead Space I only played the demo, which was reasonably fun as well. It hasn't exactly convinced me to purchase the game though.

Mass Effect completely. Apart from Final Fantasy, it is actually the best game I have ever played. Seriously.
All right, you seem to know the game fairly well. I was frustrated while playing it (the first one) because I would replay levels over and over again because my squadmates would die. All right, now I felt dumb when somebody said that they respawn after combat but then somebody else said that they don't respawn after combat and, instead, stay dead. They said that I have to be more careful to keep them alive. So, my question is this: do they respawn after combat or not? Or is there something that I'm missing. I know that I could just play it again but I don't want to start, get invested, only to end up dealing with the frustration again and giving up. So, I'll trust your answer and use it to determine whether I will play through it or just sell it for something I'll enjoy.

I picked Bioshock, for some reason, I REALLY enjoy it. Also, I've never played Dead Space.

Edit: Nevermind, I just googled it (in retrospect, I should've done that before). According to http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Health#Health, they say that squadmates do revive after combat. Wish I knew that before...would've saved me a lot of frustration. Thanks for your time though.

I'm going to say Mass Effect, but bear in mind that they are wildly different games, and since I prefer RPG's, Mass Effect appeals more to me.
