All great games, but I have to say Bioshock. It's literally one of the best FPS games I have ever played. I heard a few bad things about the controls in Dead Space for the PC and Mass Effect 1, although great, suffers from bad vehicle controls.

You're going to get a lot of Mass Effect answers. This board seems to love that game to death... I can see why, but I'm inclined to disagree.

Me, I vote Bioshock and Dead Space. I can't sing enough praise for Bioshock - the story, the setting, the visuals: everything works so damn well. Dead Space seems to be scary for different people, and I was one of them that found it to be pretty freaky (even if it was more of an adrenaline-lined fear).

All three are great games.

If you can really only get one I'd say Mass Effect above all other games. Mass Effect 2 is better, but you need to play Mass Effect to know what's going on :)
If you like survival horror, the Alien movies or Event Horizon, then get Dead Space.
If you like System Shock, Art Deco or Objectivism, then get Bioshock.

I found Mass Effect to be suprisingly bland. Really bland. As in every single environment did not look lived in, personalised, or even used day to day. I haven't played Dead Space, so I couldn't comment. I know I like Bioshock the most though. By a great deal.

Bioshock: Good but short and no replay value.

Dead Space: Never played it, but seems like same as above.

Mass Effect: Great story, can play it at least twice, has an excellent sequel that carries over exceptionally well from the original.

Guess where my vote is...

Mass Effect is the only one that I've been able to play through numerous times and not get bored halfway-through. In Bioshock I lost interest around the second level on my second play through, and I've never finished Deadspace. Also, I tend to play games more for story, and while Bioshock's setting and story are good, Bioware has done an amazing job crafting a deep and interesting universe, as well as a good story and multi-dimensional characters.

So I have been considering buying either Bioschok, Dead Space or the first Mass Effect recently, and wanted to know which you escapists would recommend as being the better game.

Bear in mind I don't care about price and I will be playing on PC.

Thanks in advance.

And YES, I took ages thinking of a way of combining the game names.

EDIT: The typo in the poll was OBVIOUSLY deliberate.
I recommend BioShock.
It's the second most critically acclaimed 360 game of all time!

And I never really cared for Mass Effect, although there are a HUGE number of Mass Effect fans and fanboys alike on this site.

Just my opinion man.

I would be torn between Bioshock or Mass Effect. But I'd say the latter because you can put endless amounts of hours into it.

By the way, the joint title you just came up with is officially the coolest name for a game I've ever heard.

I'd go for Mass Effect and Bioshock first.
Some of the best games I've played.
Dead Space was a pretty scary game... not always subtle, and it can really only be scary once so... maybe you should just rent it.

Definitely Mass Effect AND Bioshock. Incredible experiences you shouldn't miss. Not necessarily perfect, but amazing none the less.

Dead Space is optional.

Between Mass Effect and Bioshock.

Dead Space was well-made, but in the end it was a decently atmospheric exercise in jump scares and gross-outs. In terms of its scares, it's completely derivative and unintuitive. Gameplay is good, but just about everything else is... adequate.

Mass Effect is simply a science fiction epic that may be, dare I say, the Star Wars of video games in terms of its storytelling and themes. A truly amazing game that absolutely must be played, and the sequel is even better.

Bioshock is a great shooter, but its main appeal is the story. The plot twist is one of the most expertly pulled twists I've seen in gaming, combining all your normal storytelling techniques with interactive concepts that can literally only be done in a video game. A philosophically rich game that will make you think.

I think both Mass Effect and Bioshock are absolute must-plays. You can choose what would fit you best, but I would recommend either of those over Dead Space any day.
*Claps* Amen.

Bioshock is the only game I've ever played where a melee weapon does more damage than a gun.
Except for MW2...

Anyway, I would suggest Mass Effect.

I'd sell my left testicle for Mass Effect. Fortunately it didn't come to that.
Mass Effect 2 however was another story. Hopefully I won't need to sell my right one for Mass Effect 3.

Bioshock > Mass Effect >> Dead space

Bioshock and Mass Effect are excellent, Dead Space is good, worth getting all of them though, because they'll be so cheap by now.

Bioshock. It actually had a really good plot. Aint played enough of Dead Space to comment. Hated Mass Effect all the way through.
