At least wait until E3 before you break out the whine.

We have very little information about this game so far.

[sub]I'm more worried about the plot.[/sub]
Agreed the plot is where most of my concern lies. There are a lot of variables that BioWare has to account for. I'm wondering how they're going to handle things like
how all your team mates in Mass Effect 2 are killable, the genophage cure, the heretics, status of the council and the Rachni
. I'm trying to not get my expectations too high in that regard.

Nothing can be done besides speculation which just leads to bad things. Just relax see what happens, then you can get the torches out if they screw up badly.

The franchise was doomed when Mass Effect II came out.
There, I said it. It can't be taken back!

Want to make it for a larger market? Y'know... my guess is that they're just preparing for a massive advertising campaign. Not that they're purposefully out to ruin one of, if not, the best game series they make.

No, of course not. That would be a very bad business move. If they did that, they would loose most (if not all) of the loyal fans of the series, and considering how many Mass Effect fans there are, well... Yeah I do not think we have much to worry about.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!!

Oh, Escapist. You're so predictable, yet so entertaining.

And no. The only info we have is a few screenshots. It's obviously far too early to make any judgements.

I think everyone is misinterpreting this.

Surely by "appeal to a larger market" what they really mean is they will now give us the option of same sex romancing, because everyone wants a lesbian Shepard... right?

Right?
I think they're going to have more kittens. Everyone likes kittens. That would appeal to everyone, right?

I'm with you, though. For all we know, "appealing to a larger market" just means they're going to have localisations that aren't rubbish, or maybe include more countries and major cities on Earth so Mass Effect will have more appeal in non-English speaking countries. Maybe they want ME to sell better in Japan. We have no idea at this point.

Well game play wise I think its getting better, but the plot I don't know. Mass effect 3 could be great if they can keep the story and characters in line. (Plz Bioware no more daddy issues for like every character)

uh no why?

if this is a complaint about it becoming too FPS-y...well I think it has a long way to go if the jump from 2 to 3 totally drops all RPG elements and goes straight up FPS (ME2 had a good mix IMHO but I suppose some are inclined to disagree)

Honestly, I'm a little pissed about them continuing to talk about stream lining and making it more accessible to anyone, when Mass Effect 2 was streamlined so badly that it was hardly an RPG anymore.

Though, this is giving me deja vu about Dragon Age 2.
Personally I got ME2 because I enjoyed the story and action from ME1, definitely not because of the excessive amounts of RPG elements, even though I consider myself an all-round gamer.

I will agree that widening the scope of a game usually results in disgruntled fans, and a dumber crowd.

You do know that nothing about ME3 will live up to your lofty expectations, right? Like, at all.

Somewhere in the last few months everyone has gone completely off the deep end; if one or two things in a game don't meet our exact criteria, we immediately flock to Metacritic or Amazon, review-bomb the shit out of it, and label the devs "sellouts" and the game "utter trash."

Seriously guys (and gals? Nah), you're just embarrassing yourselves.

I'll buy it, I'll play it, I'll sigh sadly at every action movie plot hole and stripped-out RPG element.

Does it strike anyone else as fairly obvious that for their 'final battle' Bioware was gonna want to ramp up the combat?

Seriously I'm sick of this universe I've discovered many other RPG fans live in where if you try to make the combat in an action RPG flow as smoothly as a shooter that means that all the RPG elements will suffer for it.
(I wish I knew how to do big coloured words but this'll do)

THE ARGUMENT THAT MAKING ONE ASPECT OF A GAME BETTER WILL MAKE ANOTHER ASPECT WORSE IS NONSENSE! THERE IS ROOM FOR POLISHED SHOOTER ELEMENTS AND MEATY RPG ELEMENTS TO EXIST IN THE SAME GAME! THE GENRE'S DO NOT LIVE ON TWO DIFFERENT SIDES OF A CONCRETE WALL! THEY CAN COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER AND MAKE THE WHOLE GAME BETTER THAN THE TWO COMBINED!!!

AND FINALLY, WHAT KIND OF ELITIST GAMING GESTAPO ARE WE PROMOTING HERE WHEN WANTING TO APPEAL TO A WIDER FAN BASE IS CONSIDERED A BAD THING?! WHAT, DO YOU THINK MASS EFFECT BELONGS TO YOU, AND THE DIRTY LITTLE SHOOTER FANS ENJOYING THE FRANCHISE UNDERMINES YOUR SUPERIORITY?!?! GET OVER YOURSELF!

Oh no, I'm not saying ME1 was any better than ME2, I can't even play ME1 after playing the second. I'm just saying that BioWare, instead of actually fixing the things that were wrong with ME1, just removed them completely instead. I was hoping they would change that with 3 but it doesn't sound like it.
