Only if one person played as Shepard and everyone else played as a various process in Legion's terminal that would have to reach consensus before being able to do anything.

I don't think it would be any fun, but it would be hilarious.

What Miracle said! ^ Mmmmhmmmm!
Honestly, I couldn't care less for multi player in Mass Effect, ME3 is the conclusion of a trilogy - adding multi player is pointless, annoying and most importantly superfluous.
If BioWare decide to cater to a third person shooter multi player audience, fine by me. If they want to do it in the ME universe, also fine by me. If they involve my Shepard then it's torches, pitchforks and the AA route planner to Edmonton!
And that's all I have to say about that.............
Jenova put it far more eloquently than I, but I agree with every syllable of every word in that post bar none! NO MULTI IN ME3! (yes, I'm drunk again)
I think under the circumstances, the way you put it was perfectly eloquent ;-) As for the being drunk part - good for you, lol!

I actually think pvp would work a lot better than co-op. Sitting around waiting for your slow friend to decided what radial menu attack to use is no fun - but in pvp it would all have to be on the fly :)

Still doesn't need it though and would be a waste of developers' time. In fact, I hope there is zero online player interaction of any kind in this kind of game.

What some people here and I agree. As long as the single player experience is unhindered, I could care less for it.

I don't think it would work. Also, I would imagine that making two different games (one focused on singleplayer and the other multi) would affect both parts detrimentally.

Besides, the game is first and foremost a singleplayer experience. In order to get multiplayer into the game you'd have to strip out a fair bit of the game's mechanics - which would turn it into a cookie cutter TPS.

A story driven shooter needs to be single player.

I mean look at what happened to Bioshock 2 thanks to adding an MP.

Please god nooo,
If ME3 gets multi player I think that the developers will focus too much on that instead of the single player mode which will severely harm the gameplay and story,
For me Mass Effect 1 & 2 were amazing, partly because of the story line and partly the gameplay.
I don't want to see these 2 features given a back seat to the multi player experience.

If they add multiplayer, then they are doing it for the money, and no longer for the sake of art. Bioware being the last best bastion of great story-driven single player experiences is/was one of the only reasons I looked forward to their games. Between all of the common problems found within all of their past games being lumped together in the first Dragon Age, and the possibility of adding multiplayer to satisfy the lowest common denominator, whatever is currently hot and trendy with the masses of the gaming industry, this is exactly what I was afraid of when EA bought them out. Whatever happened to creating a good game for the sake of creating a good game, to push the boundaries of what a game could or should be as a work of art? To be blunt, it seems like the gaming industry is just a factory, now more than ever and Bioware may be giving up and going with the flow, rather than fighting against the current like they always used to.

As long as it's kept wholly separate from the main campaign, I'm fine with it. If they pull a Resident Evil 5 on us, I'm gonna be all kinds of pissed.

Hell no.

Not every game needs multiplayer. I wish modern devs would get this through their thick skulls.

It's thanks to this emphasis on multiplayer we see a decline in single player gameplay, for example the pathetically short campaign in Modern Warfare 2.

Multiplayer isn't neccessary and they would waste time making it. Time they could spend on making the game really awesome.

No, no and no. Mass Effect is about the personal struggle of Commander Shepherd, a character that you have seen evolve from Mass Effect 1 (apart from PS3 players, hehe) to the end of Mass Effect 3 (when it's out). Co-op would horribly, horribly ruin that experience and a deathmatch type multiplayer would dampen the significance of the single player experience.

Now, if they did a multiplayer game in the Mass Effect universe that didn't relate to the main trilogy...

(Multiplayer game set during the First Contact Wars anyone?)

I specifically meant XBL/PSN as opposed to local co-op. Split-screen would not work for this game in my opinion. Though as to your AA challenge idea, that sounds pretty cool actually. Perhaps you could be dropped into a city and tasked with finding and safeguarding a group of civilians from invading hordes of husks as you said. I'm kind of liking this idea...
To be honest I don't know why split screen wouldn't work. Care to elaborate a bit?
I suppose it could work but I simply feel that if it were to be split-screen, something would suffer. Be it the HUD being squished or the fact that you simply don't have the full 16:9 in order to see all the enemies. As I say, I suppose it could work but I know of no shooter games that, in my opinion do split-screen well.

So I guess it's simply my preferences. As such, I shall rephrase my earlier statement: I personally do not think split-screen co-op would work for this game but if anyone could figure it out, it's probably Bioware.

Not every game needs multiplayer...focus on Mass Effect 3 as a single player masterpiece like ME & ME2.. and they will come.

Don't shoehorn in a multiplayer feature for the sake of saying "it has multiplayer" it won't be memorable, and it won't last.

You should all know by now every game released these days has to have Multiplayer and / or Online Capability's!

Personally Given its bioware it should be able to stand up on its SP but the possibility of a lil Co-op may not be too bad if handled correctly

Yeah, I get it. Yahtzee hates multiplayer so I guess we all have to hate it, too.

I'd be fine with it, provided that it didn't effect the quality of the single-player game.

Co-op has been the one thing missing from Mass Effect. As far as competitive goes I've yet to play a third person online shooter that didn't feel clunky and slow. Thats why I couldn't get into Gears online and I'm sure Mass Effect would be the same.

No.. it doesn't. Examples:

-The Elder Scrolls series
-Bioshock (Not Bioshock 2)
-Batman Arkham Asylum
-The Fallout series
-Portal
-BIOWARE's:
-KOTOR
-Mass Effect 1 & 2
-Dragon Age: Origins

To name some off the top of my head..... some of which have won game of the year. Multiplayer is NOT always necessary.
