I played ME1 for the first time making the decisions as how I personally would react. I ended up with a pretty even balance of Paragon and Renegade points.

I prefer Paragon Shepard to Renegade, as a lot of the default dialogue is polite and well mannered and choosing the Renegade options makes it look like he has a split personality disorder. And the game makes me feel bad when I'm an arsehole for no reason. That and the glowing scars on his face look ridiculous.

I usually play Paragon, but some of the Renegade choices are badass.

Forvan - Do I know you? Nah, all you humans look alike.

Renegade Shep = Drink it

Forvan - Ah shit.

Paragon to women and the righteous, renegade to the evil doers.

But my gun knows not good from evil... >.>

I played through the game as a paragon. Though I did choose the renegade options whenever I felt they were appropriate. I definitely prefer playing through as a paragon, this essentially applies to any game with that decision.
Ditto.

Renegade has it's moments, but for the most part, I'm a paragon (but I won't be pushed too far without responding, mostly in the form of bullets in your head).

I have yet to finish Mass Effect...heh behind the times I know

but I think I'm just gonna start over and play without thinking too much into Paragon vs Renegade

I'll just go with whatever choice suits my mood at the time
of course...underneath it all I'll try to be a Paragon, but if someone I don't like is gonna die (whether by someone else or myself) then well...I don't like you BLAMMO! byez

I'm disappointing at the lack of a neutral poll option. Seeing as how I finish neutral in just about every game.

Why pick one? I go on a case by case basis, trying to pick the right choice. Then I play once doing all the opposite choices just to see the other side. Since both sides are shades of grey and there's no giant bonus for sticking to one side there's no reason to pick one side and follow it. In case you were wondering I ended up 3 parts Paragon and 1 part Renegade.
Actually, there is: If you go all Paragon or all Renegade, you get Charm or Intimidate dialogue options that are not only really cool sounding, but that make getting your way a lot easier.
True, but there are situation where only one applies, which means that those who swing both ways gets an advantage. It's an advantage to focus, sure, but not a very big one. It's also not like you get half priced force powers. Besides, you can still hit 100% for one side even if you score some points for the other side.
No there isn't situations where only one applies. That's false.
Also, there will be cases of
idiots arguing
in your team. I know a few people who hadn't enough Paragon/Renegade scores there, but I never knew what the consequences were. What happens, when you can't calm people down?

OT:
Renegade through and through. I always pick the assholian way through RPGS, be it Baldur's Gate, Fallout, ToEE, Dragon Age or Mass Effect. I find it to relieve stress more, and soften me up more easily. I have more fun, since I distance myself further from reality, and am able to do things I would never even consider in real life.
Also, some of it is just fucking cool :)

Paragon because that's just who I am. I'll play as a Renegade te second time through just to hear the alternate lines...

Well, in both one and two I have 4 characters that I've beaten the games in. I have to saves of each gender, so that I have a male and female paragon, and a male and female renegade, for whenever Mass Effect 3 comes out. Yes, I love Mass Effect that much.

But I usually have my first character be in the grey area. He's a good guy; saves people and all that. But he doesn't hesitate to cheerfully butcher his enemies. He gives you one chance to redeem yourself, then you die.

Paragon, always Paragon. In fact I literally make the exact same choices everytime I play the game, I always romance Ashley, I always save Wrex, I always spare the Rachni and I always save the Council.
Some might call that unimaginitive but I prefer to think of it as 'knowing what I like'.

Besides I prefer the noble Shepard who just has a slight mean streak to the Shepard who just hates everyone. Perhaps that's just me.

i like being the paragon because i like happy endings and i dont like being rude.

but i like the renegade because some of the actions and lines you say are truely badass and (in ME2) i like the red glowing scar tissue you get from enough renegade points.

but im usually the paragon, if only for the happy endings and entiquette.
