I used the search bar, your thread, nor any others related to classes, came up when searching for "Mass Effect Class". Feel free to check yourself if you don't believe me.camokkid said:the search barEternal_24 said:I was thinking about buying Mass Effect 2 upon its release and figured that playing the first Mass Effect game was probably a good idea (especially since it was only £3 on Steam). My problem at the moment is deciding which class to choose. At the moment I'm leaning towards Adept and Vanguard but I'm not sure whether to go with Solider instead because of the ability to carry different guns capable of dealing with any situation rather than being bound to close range.
Long story short, I need help choosing which class to go with. If you vote, please leave a reply too with the reason for your choice.

I did an almost exact same thread a while ago.
Does the Engineer have any decent offensive abilities?carpathic said:Engineer...the bonus to shields is quite helpful for a combat character...
It annoys me when people do that too lol. I honestly don't see the point in buying a sequel to a game which you haven't played.idon said:Good job for playing the first instead of just buying the second with no idea about the story, simply because other people are. (Sorry, pet peeve of mine.)
I stand correctedT3h Merc said:Not at all! Edit: Just watched the vanguard video, and apparently they are going to be able to be the close range class. Close range is the most personal range, and the range I am going to be at. Vanguard it is.All three of you, reread the OP. He was asking for the first game.MrPandarium said:First choice
Adept, biotics are now much more powerful than they were in the original game and I want to try that lift/throw combo we saw in the trailers.
Second choice
Engineer.........Cryo BlastI agree, it's always good to have a balanced squad.VioletZer0 said:Eh, I still picked based on how strong they were. From the information I've read and heard there isn't restriction on armor in ME2. I'll try to find a source.Souplex said:Vanguard if they get to wear heavy armor this time around. Otherwise, soldier.

Yes, but he asked what he should do for ME1, and you can switch your class between games even if you bring over save files.Ayrav said:Well, aren't you Mister Super-fucking-technical, you realize the OP is considering buying ME2, right?orannis62 said:Ayrav said:Vanguard.

All classes are good as long as you use them properly and what this guy here says about the adept is a little off. He says the Vangaurd is better at biotic powers than the adept because of adrenaline. While it is true you can redo all the powers you just did a vangaurd can't use the far more powerful biotics which the adept can. This doesn't mean the vangaurd is bad it just means it can use weaker soilder abilities and weaker adept abilities in balance which can be effective. The vanguard is just as good as every other class.CmdrGoob said:Vanguard rules over all in ME1.
With tactical armor and barrier, you are a tank.
With shotguns and warp vulnerability you can hit like a truck with shotgun blasts.
With throw and lift you have excellent crowd control.
And the best part... With assault training, you can throw out powers like crazy, hit adrenaline chanelling and use them all over again. You can't do that with an Adept.
Best class, period.
But they really aren't offensive abilities. Honestly, the only "offensive" abilities in the game are Overload and Warp. The rest of your offense is all weapon related. The Engineer and Sentinel have the least damage-oriented skill points, and thus are the weakest offensive classes.VioletZer0 said:Plenty. Overload, Sabotage and Dampening are all great skills.Eternal_24 said:Does the Engineer have any decent offensive abilities?carpathic said:Engineer...the bonus to shields is quite helpful for a combat character...
