Poll: Mayes Muses- Good or Bad?

It comes to taste and generally all that, making a topic discussing on 'why' people like her is like asking a WoW player what is there to entertain in WoW...meaning it's pointless, and everyone has their own likes of things and dislikes.

I like her because it's a more mild affair of citing problems with a game (although they're a miss and hit sometimes).

For example, her RE5 one pretty good, but she talked on how good it was when most hated it, while her Bionic Commando one was spot on and fun. On the other hand, her Overlord 2 one was pretty poor all around.

So summarize: Personal preference works, with occasional videos of brilliance, while others fall flat.

I have no idea why she's on here, but there's a show about strippers playing D&D on here so in comparison she gets a pass. I just ignore her vids like I ignore everything else except ZP and LRR.

Does anyone actully watch that? I mean, Really? I turned it off in about 1 minute.. Just.. Ogh.

Here's the thing, I just got done watching Mayes "Yahtzee" song, and I fail to see why she is on this site. The "Yahtzee" song isn't the first video of her I have watched. I've watched several of them, and each one made me cringe.

It's nothing personal against her, but I feel that the Escapist's ( and her own) time, money, web space, and any other resources that go into her video, would be better spent on something else.

She has a decent voice, and she's relatively attractive ( and we all know how rare that is, for a gamer girl, anyway), but her songs are repetitive, poorly written, and don't entertain.

Other video's on this site don't appeal to me either, but in those cases, I can see that they could appeal, to someone else . Since I am not the only person on the Escapist, I can only assume that the other videos appeal to other members.

But in Muses case, I watch it and think, " There can't possibly be enough people that enjoy this, to make it worthwhile."

So I am writing this thread to find the answer to my question.

What do you think of Mayes?

Do you enjoy her video's?

Do you think her video series should be canceled?

P.S. I am curious to see the results of the poll. If she is a fan favorite, than maybe I am just incapable of understanding her appeal, but if she's not a favorite, then why are her video's on this site?

I really don't see why we should keep her around because she's attractive that's just shallow.
But I do like her music (well some songs but not all) and it's a change from my normal music tastes like death metal,metal,blues and rock.

I like her songs. I don't watch it religiously, but her songs, in my opinion, are the exact opposite of contrived and dorky. And if you can't see that, then you're dumb you have a different opinion of music then I do. Her songs always surprise me, and she's well aware that she writes "generic stuff", but You couldn't do a better job she's just prettier then you and that makes you mad it's probably better then most of the crap you listen to I still find it enjoyable to listen to. I like her style of music, it's very light, and airy, and if it was a solid object it would float in water. I get that most people on this site only like stupid crap like heavy metal are into a more heavier sound, but I myself am not, and this type of music caters to me, and I enjoy, even if I don't understand what her songs are about (I haven't played any of the games she has written a song for).

But I'm not The Escapist, and if she was removed for some reason, I would not fight it.

I would complain a lot though.

P.S: I'm not trying to start flame wars. You all can take jokes right?

I really like her music, bought and downloaded her albums and it makes really good chill out music when i'm stressed.
Obviously her style of music isn't one that appeals to everyone, but she has enough religious viewers to prove shes good.

I don't really care for her, but to each their own. I've watched a couple of her videos and they just never appealed to me. But like someone else said, if we can have a show about strippers and D&D, then I think Mayes is alright to keep.

The only shows I watch on here anyways are Zero Punctuation and Unskippable, and I did watch Game Dogs when it was on. But other than that, I don't much of an interest in the other things.

You really should have a Mostly Alright and Mostly Bad options on there.

She is hit and miss for me, some of the stuff is excellent, some of it is just far to experimental and out there for me to like.

Lots of artists tend to have a few decent tracks, and the rest of the album is filled up with stuff they have been tooling around with. With the good ones however, everything is excellent. They have a style, they stick with it, and even the worst of the stuff is still decent and enjoyable. With Rebbecca Mayes she doesn't stick with a style, for all I know stuff that is outside the type of music I enjoy might be excellent but I just don't find the appeal of that kind of music.

Not a big fan, but she's alright. Her voice is good, and she writes all of those songs herself. For cranking out a song every, like, four weeks, that's pretty awesome.

she's amazing. when you can write music that's that original and quirky pass comment and criticise but in the mean time appreciate it. it's not my typical listening but i love it cos it's so damn clever.

She's fine, not one of my favorites, but does some good stuff.

I guess it comes down to how well you like folk music, her style isn't exactly mainstream but is fairly consistant. Like anyone whose produced a lot of videos, it's been hit or miss.

The only real complaint I have is that it mostly seems one note, and while the peace/love/understanding stuff is pretty much what folk is all about, sometimes it makes me roll my eyes when attached to certain subject matter. It gets predicable, and while I get her message I'm not quite sure if I think it syncs right when she's talking about sympathy for the ghosts in Ghostbusters, or the monsters in various games.

On the other hand I will say some of her songs have hit a fairly deep chord with me. While the song wasn't the best, I definatly get the sentiments behind "The Machine" for example.

To each their own, right now "Zero Punctuation", "ENN", and "Rebecca Mayes" are my three favorite features in roughly that order. The rest I don't care too much for.

I personally find her songs dreary, boring and extremely poor. I mean her voice is good, but the songs really are completely and utterly dire.

Theres a lot of things i've watched myself from various mediums that I dislike myself, but can see its appeal to someone else, but this is one of the things I cannot see others liking, unless they simply have a schoolboy crush on the girl that drowns out the sounds when viewing her.

Edit: One thing I agree with I just saw someone mention is the repetition of words in her songs as well, with the Yahtzee one being "Is it ok, Is it ok, is it ok, is it ok"
