and she's relatively attractive ( and we all know how rare that is, for a gamer girl, anyway)
Wow. There's so much that's not cool about that sentence.
I personally don't like her songs, mostly because I don't think games are a serious enough matter to warrant the genuine serenading she gives them - humorous songs would work a lot better. She's pretty good, but it feels like a weird clash of flavours to me.
What, exactly, is " not cool" about that sentence?
I can assume that you are approaching this from several view points.
1. You take issue with Mayes being labeled as "relatively attractive".
But, that's a general statement, and isn't insulting to her. She is relatively attractive. When I say things like "relatively" I generally intend it to mean, relative to the concepts of attractiveness held by the average person. Meaning, that I may or may not find her attractive, but it's reasonable to assume that a significant number would.
2. ( most likely) You take issue with the idea that "relatively attractive" female gamers are rare.
I can only speak from experience and observation, but this seems true. Of course, there is someone who would find the most hideous girl "attractive", but speaking from a relative standpoint ( which I did) the average female gamer is not attractive. Does this mean that there aren't attractive female gamers? No. Does this mean that most female gamers are ugly? No. It means that relative to societal concepts, the average female gamer, is average lookng. Hence, the word "average".
But, attractive implies being above average, which is rare no matter what you are talking about, unless it's an industry devoted to looks, like Hollywood, or fashion. In the game, comic, and otherwise "nerd" industries, focus is placed on concepts, story, and personality, rather than materialistic looks, so it is a rarity to find someone who focuses on both personality and physical attractiveness. So, I intend no insult, just a simple statement of fact.
