I knew that they weren't planning to screw me over at any point during the course of the game, so I was able to sleep at night. I also don't think that they'll try to kill me unless I seriously get in their way, but I figure that they're about 1 or 2 Cerberus-made Reapers away from enslaving anything that isn't Human.

I was somewhere in the middle. I didn't trust them, as I knew all the shit they did in ME1, but at the same time, they needed me enough to bring me back to life, so I was willing to trust them that much.

Yeh, I trusted Cerberus - much more than I trusted the Alliance (if they have people like Ashley Williams and Kaiden Alenko swanning around, then it's worth giving them a wide berth for the most part) or the soft-touch council.

Not only did they, bring me back to life from the mangled state I was in after the Normandy crashes, they set me up with a whole gang of badasses to fight alongside and a sweet new ship to fly around the galaxy in!

That, and working for some mysterious organisation called Cerberus headed by an "Illusive Man2 that gives you carte blanche to generally do as you please to achieve your goals, even more so than you would being a Spectre? I know what my choice would be.

I basically followed Cerberus for the entire game, right down to preserving the Collector Base at the very end. Will be interesting what they manage to get up to with that....

Do I trust the Cerberus? Only as far as I need them...
Can Cerberus trust ME? Only if they're stupid...

ILLUSIVE MAN, YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED. I SHALL BECOME THE NEW ILLUSIVE MAN!

I get where they are coming from but there is no chance I can trust them. They do have some innocents in their organization though, people who have joined them but have no clue about their shady reputation. Hell just look at Kenneth and Gabby down in Normandy's engineering deck.

Should be interesting to see what happens in ME3 with Cerberus but I suspect Bioware has backed itself into the "Fable" corner. Promising such and such choice will have some sort of dramatic effect in the end but nothing actually comes to pass or the effect is rather minor (Nirali Bhatia comes to mind). Again, we have no clue whatsoever as to how the story will progress in ME3 and how much time will go by between ME2 and ME3. Hopefully Bioware delivers the goods.

Cerberus has clear cut goals and will do everything in their powers to do them. It the the Alliance that you really need to worry about with all their flip flopping.

Well I did not trust them till the council said "Ah yes..."Reapers".". After that screw the good guys and the polite way, I'm going with the shady organization. I just hope that when TIM decides to conquer the Universe he has the decency to call me.

List of factions in Mass Effect in order of least trustworthy to most trustworthy(in my opinion). Tell me if I missed any out.

Terminus Systems
Merc Groups (Eclipse, Blood pack etc)
Cerberus
Council
Alliance (part of the council, but for the purpose of this a different faction)
Krogan
Migrant fleet
Rachni
Geth

It is very ironic that the Geth probably have Shepard's back more than his own people and the Council, but to the Geth the existence of the 'Old Machines' as they call them is fact and thus so are Shepards achievements. I hope that we get to form some kind of alliance with the Geth in ME3.

No, they're the space-faring version of the British National Party. Racist, xenomorhphobic and willing to use violence to further political ideals...

I don't trust Cerberus or the Illusive Man at all. During ME2, I saw them as allies of convenience, since they gave me my life back and they were the only ones willing to fight the Collectors.

When I had the choice to destroy or keep the Collector base, I destroyed it without a second thought. There's no way I'm giving a pro-Human terrorist organization the ability to build a Reaper.

I don't really trust anybody that makes more then I do, but they ain't all bad.
Gave me a new body, let me have alien sexytime...and then there's this...
The only reason they bring you back is because they're mostly hoping to have you on their side.
That's the reason why the Illusive Man even gives you all that stuff, help, etc.
He's trying to win you over.
If I hadn't played the first game, it would have worked, but they did a lot of fucked up stuff in the first one.
And I mean a lot.
The people of the System Alliance can at least sleep with a clear conscience.
It was a joke bro, I played ME1 to tears and I take every opportunity to piss on cerberus ingame.

Why isn't there a answer "Did not give a Shit!"

OT:I honesty didn't give two shits about Cerberus, all i cared about was them giving me more missions to do. I did't like them or hate them all they where was someone to go to for the next job(killing the same three or five guys)

They never really in the second game made any effort to hide that they had done things that could be considered really bad. They just tried to argue that the ends jsutified the means in most cases. And that due to the cellular nature of the organisation not all agree with all actions of other cells.

The seeming explosion of the organistaion is not that difficult to explain. Perhaps the name came from the ex-black ops units, perhaps they were mearly the 1st time that different instances were linked together, and connected with the same name. Lets face it in a place like space, connecting disparate insidents wuld be hard, until a spate of instances by a rouge black ops unit which you may well link together due to the professionalism.

I didn't but didnt really find them particuarly inconsistant. Certainly not by modern and historical terrorist/freedom fighters/goverments.

Well given that I attacked several of their facilities in the first game and I'm pretty sure they weren't too happy about that. No.

I trust them! They're explanation about their highly dubious activities in Mass Effect 1 seemed genuine. They brought me back to life. They gave me a new ship, guns, a ship with guns.

The Illusive Man is a great guy, totally trustworthy and I think he really has humanity's best interests at heart. I like to view Cerberus as being like the Jedi Council - the supercool good guys!
