Neither, but since men and women are so different, it might seem to a man that women are more irrational in an argument because we think differently.

Remember kids there is a difference between who has the best argument and who actually wins.

To all those who voted "women":

I know you all think you're incredibly clever for discussing things like these in a supposed "rational" manner, but you really are just coming off as childish, inexperienced, and ignorant. Come back when you're 30 and look at this and your ignorance (not to mention your misogyny) will be crystal clear. How do you ever expect to have women take you seriously when you can't even show a modicum of basic respect towards them?

I went with the same. It really depends on how you were raised, and if you're introverted or extroverted. I think sex only plays part when the topic relates; if you're discussing breast size in videogames, I think men could have a potentially more reasonable argument. If you're discussing something like war or sports, then women could have a potentially more reasonable argument.

I voted that they're about the same, but I still actually quite prefer the emotional way of decision making.

Well, my girlfriend gets mad at me for stuff I did in a dream and argues about it with me, so I have to say male.

Funny fact: the wiring of the brain determines a lot of things. Scientifically its been noted the the male brain operates in a straightforward manner. Point 1 - Point 2, Throw Spear - Kill Antelope etc. This makes us excellent problem solvers but also explains why we have a more difficult time appreciating abstract things like art, finer points of romance and why shows like Bold and the Beautiful are mindboggling.

Women's brains interconnect a great deal more which allows them to multitask like champs. Seriously, watch the mother of a small child in action or a female executive at work. These people juggle so many different tasks at once and do it while rarely losing track of any of them no matter what stage their at, its impressive to watch.

Now when we argue, men usually go straight to the point with little deviation, but makes us look single-minded, whereas women will try to build context, and we can confuse that with going off topic.

The above has nothing to do with respect or a lack of it. I've met women who argue their case with complete and utter rationality and men who simply loose their shit at the first sign of being wrong. All I'm saying is that thousands of years of brain wiring are at work in how we conduct ourselves. As we are people with freewill, how rational you are is totally up to you.

In my experience, men tend to be more logical in their presentation and discussion of arguments (if not necessarily in the conclusions they make).

It's much more of an individual trait than a gender one, but I see the use of logic in a significantly higher percentage of men.

To my knowledge, there have been at least a few studies that show men are more left-oriented and women are more right-oriented in the use of the brain. It's not a blanket state by any means, but the results of these studies imply that men have a natural trend towards logic while women tend towards intuition.

I'm far too lazy and apathetic to the topic to look through pages of google search results to find the studies I read, but I'm sure they're out there somewhere.

Both men and women are illogical and irrational to the point that its scary.
That is so depressingly true. I yearn for the days when Common Sense will no longer qualify as a super-power.

for some reason i am always doing something bad in my girlfriends dreams as well, it's so irritating. If i am going to get blamed for doing something bad i should at least get the pleasure of actually doing it.
Then go do it, and if she finds out, claim double jeopardy.

I wouldn't call it rationality, but men seem to resolve arguments far quicker then women, in my limited experience.

Truthfully, both genders are exactly the same. Individuality states that everyone is different, despite hormones. So some men can be rational, and total pricks, and vice versa for women. However, I find that men are much more unintelligable than women most of the time anyways, simply because men have 2 minds in one body, one is our actual brain, and the other is our penis. Any man that disagrees deserves a pummling, unless you are Maddox, than you have an excuse.

In my dealings, i'd say men, but to be fair the to ladies here, most of the women i know in person are complete nutters, i'm sure outside the circles i run in there are some women of great rationality.

I've never known anybody to be particularly rational in an argument. The idea that some gender is somehow more rational is, in fact, hilarious. Simple pandering to the 'stoic male' stereotype vs the 'fickle, irrational woman'. Sorry, it's BS.
Pretty much this. I've known women who get all irrational in an argument while the man sticks stoically to the point, and at the same time men who get all childish and whinily aggressive while the woman stays patient and calm and has to repeat herself until the man understands. Arguments are never rational. Debates are (theoretically) rational, and by their very nature no-one is allowed to be irrational because you have to defend your point. Theoretically. Because 'debates' usually devolve into arguments anyway.

Actually, I reckon it depends more on how each person feels - whoever feels like they're 'losing' the argument is more likely to become irrational, regardless of gender.

I'll tell you what I think when I've got to know at least 500000000 more people of both genders. That should be pretty representative.

I'd say the men & women are equally irrational & are just stupid in different ways.

Am I a rational woman?

I can wear one pair of shoes with absolutely everything I own, I do not watch Opra or reality shows, I do not accept advice from Cosmo, I do not think that blonde hair & breast implants will further my white collar career, I think that if you dress like a whore you have no place getting angry at men/lesbians who whistle, I think Twilight is ruining vampires, I think Disney is pushing shitty untalented excuses for bad-influence musicuans on kids, I think celebrities & Disney princesses are horrible rolemodels for little girls, I think strippers are taking financial advantage of their customers, I think it's unhealty to let children grow up thinking they're special, I think it's cruel to put a pink dress on a dog, I think war funds should be cut & put into education instead of the other way around, I think weightloss commercials are all BS scams, I think that commercials that expect you to believe they're using real customers are underestimating viewers' intelligence, I think news needs to focus on the truth instead of ratings, I think tv channels are all loosing their integrity with their programing, I think the entertainment business is afraid to take chances & keeps rehashing the same shit, I think that sex, romance, ego, faith, & money do not need to be the sole topics for every goddamn song there is, I think that if it was manditory to have a peanut run as a 3ed candidate for a government office & it won that the other candidates should take it as a sign to retire from politics, & that if trick-or-treaters can go door to door, the girlscouts should too.
