I'm going to say it flat out: I find metal fucking boring.
Hip-hop, on the other hand, has a lot of musical flexibility and lots of room for experimentation in vocal delivery and soundscaping. When I first heard albums like Entroducing....., Metaphorical Music, Alopecia, Stankonia, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, The Marshall Mathers LP, and Deltron 3030, I was fucking floored, ESPECIALLY with the first two. After hearing Endtroducing..... for the first time, I listened to it at least once a day for a week, which is A LOT considering I like to listen to albums in rotation, and Metaphorical Music is in my top three albums. Hip-hop isn't all about bitches and whores or cashmoney. Hell, lyrics aren't even mandatory. You can just have beats that develop and stand their ground. I got some stellar instrumental hip-hop from a guy [http://soundcloud.com/kings-county-lighthouse/tracks] in Brooklyn last week.
Speaking of which, I should fire out a word of thanks to him. It's incredible.
