I'm a mix of the two, I like to make things out of trees.

Through the use of Saplings and soil I created a tree tower which is basically constructed by growing a tree, getting on top of it and replacing the top middle block with soil, then planting another sapling, repeat until the tower is the size you want.

I might try and create a suspended house inside trees next.

Mostly an environmentalist on the ground, since whenever I build a tower or bridge, etc. I fit it into the landscape, but under the ground I don't leave any blocks in my way.
I also like to build random far away portals in the nether, and then build something in the place where I resurface in the overworld. And to make it safe, all of my portals in the nether are connected by a system of tunnels.

I'm only an environmentalist in that I always plant new trees when I cut them down so I don't have to walk that far to get more wood in the future.

A bit of both. I like to keep the landscape relatively natural, but I develop basically everywhere, rather than just build small bases.

i carve out small sections but try to leave the world mostly as it is - unless something like a mountain or forest is blocking my path

Well on the surface it may appear as though I'm an environmental but the genesis cave beneath the house would definately make you think again.

I cut trees down, but I play the saplings back outside... don't really see the point in a tree farm when I have a shit ton of trees everywhere as it is... might try to make a tree farm in my new world... my base is under ice... :D

Well... Since most of my structures are entirely underground.. However, the entire underground of my areas are essentially hollowed out and full of tunnels, I doubt that's very environmentaly..

Industrialist. Nature has no place in MY world. When I'm done with this place, the only wildlife left will be in a zoo. The trees will be grown on a farm. All the finite resources will be depleted. The Nether will spill out into this place. The entire world will be one giant death trap for everyone and everything in it (except me).

On the surface, I am pretty much an environmentalist. I like the natural beauty of my ice-lake. I planted a whole lot of sugar cane near it. However, underground I am all industrial. I make orderly caverns (to the best of my ability) and work it so I can always get back to the top within 3 minutes.

I tend to use (wait for it) hax so I have no need to chop down forests and dig great pits for my stone.
That doesn't stop me from unintentionally altering the landscape dramatically. Just today I burnt down about a square mile of forest by accident, and since I kind of needed that forest to look pretty around my mini valley... I have to replant it.

My style seems to fit environmentalist the best, but it turns out not utterly dominating your world is also a symptom of old-fashioned laziness.

I pretty much found one area next to the spawn, started digging, built a temporary mountain cave for shelter and a fair sized mine system to gain materials, then began to build my giant floating house of awesomeness that is starting to look like an elephant spider cross.
I usually also avoid killing animals, if I get low on health I just put my useful materials in a chest and find a creeper. I built over the spawn, so I spawn right inside my house.
