I got it for about 4 quid I think. I quite enjoyed it, and was doing something about Parkour in Media the time it came out which was handy.
Can't play it now I've got no PS3 :(

Brought it for £8 ($11) about six months back, almost nothing better for the money (I saw crackdown for £7, i would also recommend that)
Immensely enjoyable the forced shooting sections are quite far between and arent fustrating

Buy it!

I bought it for $20 and don't regret it. There aren't many parts that force shooting action. The bigger problem is the times where you can't figure out what the game wants you to do in order to proceed.

Edit: Oh, there is this one section that forces you to engage in melee combat for an extended amount of time. That was stupid.

The force fights are a problem, but honestly, they arn't THAT bad. If they were the focus of the game, it would be a deal breaker. But as it is, it yoyos between a little variety and tension, and unnecessary. If you can get even a little enjoyment from a so so action game, then the action sequences won't ruin it for you. Especially if you practice a little self discipline, and only fight the fights you absolutely have to (In which case, running to escape the baddies is a pretty good incentive)

As for the FPS aspect not being as good as the free running, well yes, that's true, in the same way that in the Sims, the brutal realism of combat isn't as polished. The very existence of FPS mechanics is essentially a grudging nod to realism, the developers going, "Well...if the guns right there...its a little silly that they can't pick it up. Sigh. I guess we have to include a few FPS elements, but lets keep it as tiny as possible, okay?"

Basically, no worries. Mirrors Edge is not a shitty FPS. Its a great free running/puzzle game that every once in a while feels an obligation to acknowledge that sometimes, you just gotta cap a *****. It's not handled great, but I think that if you enjoyed the demo, $10 is an absolute steal.

For 10 bucks? Hell yes.

It doesn't have a super long story mode, but you'll get a lot of extra time from doing Speed Runs and Time Trials.

While the combat is far from perfect (It's the worst part of the game :p) and you ARE forced into it at times, it's well worth it to be able to go through the awesome free running sections of the game. The game is simply a blast, and it's well worth $10.

Had you said $50 or $60, then it might be "Depends" or "No", but for $10, you'd be getting a damn good deal.

While I've never played the game, from what I've heard it should be unique enough to warrant a purchase at that price. There's basicly no risk worth mentioning at 10 $ for a physical copy which can be resold.

I played the demo for Mirror's Edge and thought it was a lot of fun. However, looking at reviews I noticed a lot of complaints over the fact that you are forced to fight people in some instances. One thing I noticed on the demo was that the shooting mechanics and the fighting system weren't as polished as the free-running. Because I was looking for something different in my library of FPS/TPS/RPGs, I was hoping the Mirror's Edge might be something different, but a poor FPS would not be enjoyable.

So, what are your opinions? Is it worth buying for $10 and are there any sections that force you to go into "shooty-action" mode, as opposed to the better free-running mode?
10 dollars I say F-YEAH.
When towards the end theres a part where you have to destroy a bunch of servers to get a door to open. You can either take a guy out and steal his gun or you can just run around and have them take out the servers then wipe out all the guys. any part really gets to be a shooty action part if you want to make it that way rather than free running

It is, absolutely. While I found some levels to be very tedious, and plain BAD (parkour indoors, especially through ventilation shafts... are you kidding?), some of them were sheer brilliance in my opinion. While I wouldn't buy it full price like I did if I had already played it beforehand, I would still buy it at a discount.

BUY IT!

For that price, its fantastic. Its something unique and different in terms of gameplay (barring the awful gunplay that you aren't really forced to used. At least on the lower difficulties).

And in this day and age, finding something that plays as unique as Mirror's Edge does is rare.

Yes you fool! Buy it, buy it now, and don't question me! And then just play the campaign to get to the time trial maps, which are heaps more fun than those stupid cops.

For $10? Not worth it.

The gameplay was bad. Really, really, bad. Had no fun with it; love Platformers.

That game brought me through a 3 week break just beating it a couple challenges and trying to finish it without firing a shot.

I never finished it but for 10 bucks ya it would be an okay buy. You could do a lot worse for 10 bucks.
