It wasn't very good. First person platforming didn't work well to begin with, and frustrating levels and forced combat sections late in the game slowed the pace down a lot. Add to that a plot that didn't fully utilize the world it was based in, generally unlikable characters and a twist that was facepalmingly obvious, and you have, in no way whatsoever, the best game ever.

tl;dr version: don't like

I thought that for the casual player it was too frustrating, to do anything like what you saw in videos required multiple playthroughs. I wasn't expecting to be that good the first and only time I played the game but the whole campaign i didn't really ever get a "flow" going except for a few rare occasions. Not a horrible game, but not good.

It was pretty fun. I still have yet to finish it, because I just lost interest, but I would NEVER go so far as to call it the best game ever.

Well...my least favorite part would have to be when Ropeburn rushes you and you have one of those, "Press button x to not die" moments. I must of died thirty times in that sequence and I was downright convinced it was broken.

My favorite part is the bit before the server room on the final level where you're running the rooftops and there are all of those snipers and that assault team starts coming for you when you're about to get back inside. If you know what you're doing you'll feel like one bad ************ for blowing through that sequence with three unconscious snipers and an inadequate assault team in your wake.

This game was great, I really don't understand why people hate it... i think the only way people can hate it is if the just straight up suck at it.
I know. And, to all people who say "Oh, First Person Platforming is bad because you can't see your feet unless you look straight down" well...you can't in real life either.

I thought it was great. It only had a few fatal flaws towards the end

1. Forced combat: This game was NOT meant for combat.
2. Short: Self explanatory.
3. Story was very bleh, you didn't feel a real pull towards any of the characters or the world. Faith's motives in the story felt weak to the player (at least to me).

That was the best part of the game's second half. However, I can't believe that people playtested the server room part and approved it. Who the hell would ever find something as torturous as that fun?

How often do you find yourself running from snipers and jumping between buildings in real life? ;)

I thought it looked awesome the first time I saw a preview, but then when it came out it looked so pointlessly bright and gimmicky that I never played it. I know one guy who played it and he really liked it, but he told me right off that you have to play it like three times through to make it feel like it's worth the price.

I play games over because I like them, not to validate the price tag. Maybe they'll make a sequel that's longer and makes the gimmick into something that's actually a decent game. Until then, it's just an inflated tech demo.

For notes on how to go from tech demo to cool game, see Portal.

The brightness thing was interesting, and worked pretty well with the setting, but the REASON for it was simply idiotic. It reminded me a lot of midichlorians(However you spell that) when I realized why everything was so bright.

I rented it recently. It's innovative for sure, and fun to boot, but I wouldnt buy it. It's very short! And I am not at all intrigued with the story I was given. It's the gameplay that peaks my interest, and if I were to be playing in a setting more grounded in reality, I'd have alot more fun. It is a good introduction to the style of play though.

I thought the 'pointless' brightness was a pro of the game. It wasn't like all the ugly looking games out nowadays like gears of war 2.
As much as I love any opportunity to bash GoW, I won't, because the mods are watching (plus I know there's no point, except the fun of flaming, which isn't really that fun, so nevermind).

I agree with what you're saying. But bright colors are just as bad as muddy colors if they make the game you're trying to play hard to look at. For games that get colors right, look at Assassin's Creed, Saints' Row 2, or Fable 2. Nice, pretty, don't interfere with gameplay. Mirror's Edge strained my eyes as bad as GoW, even though it was at the opposite end of the spectrum.

Mirrors Edge was one of my favorite games of last year. Plus who can turn down listening to the song "Still Alive", no one!

Mirrors edge was good because of one simple reason, it was a game my GF could enjoy playing as much as I did...

considering she doesnt play a whole lot of games (mainly rpg's and puzzle games) it was a good change..
