AWESOME!!!!! Mirrors Edge is the best game ever. If you haven't played it, you must. vote on the poll I will add. Also post your favorite or least favorite parts.
Woah, tighten the lash a wee bit. I agree with ya mate, Mirror's Edge is a phenomenal game that, I believe, deserves much praise all things considered, but in your fervent joy, you're foaming at the mouth like a fanboy the day Brawl came out.

Remember that not everyone thinks like you, I've seen a rather ludicrous amount of people trolling about like flagellents, damning the game and anyone's appreciation of the game, possibly out of frustration with the game or a the establishment of a loosely organized cult based on the perversed worship of the good Ben Croshaw and his every trivial opinion. The key difference between a franchise fan and a straight-up rabid fanboy is open-mindedness, control, and diplomacy when addressing others not already indoctrinated.

Maybe it was the Playstation 3 version Yahtzee played or something, because I found the XBox 360 version to be one of the Best Games of the Year. I didn't buy the demo, so there was no sense of disappointment about expectations. And I found the controls a little different to first pickup, but when I figured them out in a 7-second span, I found them intuitive and well-suited to the gameplay. Maybe if I had played the Prince of Persia series first, I would have found the experience much less enjoyable, but I hadn't so this was my fist parkour game. I know claims about the use of the ruling authority as an enemy may have rubbed some the wrong way, but I'm already a bit of an anti-central authoritarian and found the point about people now living simple and seemingly happy lives worked well, cause it recognizes that open 1984 Big-Brother is obviously bad and easy to recognize. Its harder to do if the place is clean, the propaganda is less direct, and certain trade-offs are made.

Aside from that:
1) Found it Highly Immersive: to the point where I find myself wanting to do a run-up or wall-jump when I pass tightly-packed construction stuff or a low wall.
2) The Platforming was Fluid and Collision Worked Great: I know some disagree, but when I wanted to jump, wall-run, run-up, grab a ledge while falling, etc. all worked well, never missed a beat once (save a few user-errors).
3) Provided Plenty of Clever Platforming Puzzles: these were properly spaced between high-tension moments to let the player catch his breath and prevent the issue of monotomy-induced boredom. They were challenging enough to make me think and feel rewarded when I solved them, but simple enough to figure out if I stopped and considered my options.
4) Much Needed Change in Atmosphere: even as a man who loves my dystopian shooters and dark worlds, the bright colors, atmosphere, and camera affects were a much needed change in pace from black, grey, brown, and gloom.

On the Otherhand:
1) Terribe Combat: the game is about running, not fighting or shooting, and they require a little too much gunplay for the experience I wanted going in. Hand-to-Hand wasn't too bad.
2) Characters and Plot-Development: I loved the world crafted for this game, but I couldn't find myself getting attached to the characters, most of which were movie and/or literary cliches anyways. Different really care much for the plot either, pretty poor overall.
3) More Length: I still had fun replaying it again and again, as well doing the time trials, but I felt it needed to be longer. Not bad for a maiden run though.

I liked the game, but the cut-scenes were terrible, and fighting more than one or two enemies at a time had me seething with rage.

This game was great, I really don't understand why people hate it... i think the only way people can hate it is if the just straight up suck at it.

The same can be said about most games. But back on topic, I had issues placing jumps for maybe the first 15 minutes. After that, it became much more natural, and then, I enjoyed it much more.

It wasn't very good. First person platforming didn't work well to begin with, and frustrating levels and forced combat sections late in the game slowed the pace down a lot. Add to that a plot that didn't fully utilize the world it was based in, generally unlikable characters and a twist that was facepalmingly obvious, and you have, in no way whatsoever, the best game ever.

tl;dr version: don't like
You left out the motion sick feeling that most players feel after trying to pull of such acrobatics in first person, but other than that I feel you summed it up fairly well. The game was interesting and new, but overall, a bad concept as well.

At least it came in colors other than gunmetal gray and dirt brown.

4/5 in my opinion the platforming was very intuitive once i got used to it. and while i'll admit the combat wasn't perfect, it was adequate enough to dipose of my enimies pretty damn efficiently.

Hmm.

I bought it for the PC a few weeks back, so my experience will vary a bit from the people who rented it for a console (also, you have to buy demos for the X360? Whoah).

First off, I really didn't have any problem with the combat. The main issue I found, as rightly pointed out by the devs, was that I (as many other people) tried to complete the game without using any guns at all because they were going for the achievement, which is not really how you're meant to play the game. Once I accepted that, I had no problem with combat. Oh and there didn't seem to be anything wrong with the shooting, but that might be just because I'm on the PC, where it's really, really hard to mess up the shooting. I couldn't hit a thing in the PS3 demo, but I'm hopeless at console shooters either way. The latter part of the game had some pretty interesting brawling sequences, too.

Now the complaints about lack of flow, I really don't get. There are three distinct approaches the game takes - you either have to run, solve a puzzle or do combat/run very fast. I'm not sure - maybe it's just because I'd seen quite a few preview videos, so I had some idea of what the harder parts of the game looked like already, but I usually found the flow was pretty well put-together. Even if you don't always take same the super-quick as some of the videos, you can usually figure out other paths to get where you want easily enough. I'd go so far as to say that the most fun part of the game is teaching yourself to run, observe the environment and come up with reliable routes through on the fly. A lot of the time, the routes through are so blatantly obvious, that you can jump, climb, run etc without even looking where you're going.

I quite like it, I was in love with the style of the game and the soundtrack. The plot however needed to built upon a lot more.

Had this stupid... thing that made my computer lag like mad at the scene with the police helicopter following you. Didn't really like it before that part, never bothered to go through that. And no, it wasn't my computer, I could run it decent (1280x1024, full aa, hdr, bloom, all the bells and whistles) up until that point, even tried lowering the settings to their lowest point. Nothing helped.

It was a bold effort to try something different that sadly fell into the trap of forgetting what made it good the further along the story you went.

Probably would've gone with love if it didn't randomly decide to erase my game. I'll replay it so I can finish it at some point, but I am too annoyed at the moment.

I thought that Mirrors Edge was fantastic but there's no way it's the best game ever.

Loved the concept, hated the execution.
Finished it in one 5½-hour sitting, DESPITE having severe problems with a couple of areas of the game (having to wall-jump to an unseen platform around a corner which took forever to find and repeatedly falling down one-inch cracks between platform and wall in that scaffolding level.)
Was so disgusted with the whole experience that I wrote a review here, in the "Very preemptive yet hopefully official Mirror's Edge thread". Was accused of trying to be Yahtzee, which I btw was not. There was no over-the-top profanity in the text.:)

Still, that about sums it up. The new Prince of Persia had far less innovation, but was a much better game.
I actually went to my grandmother's funeral the day after playing M.E., and had MORE fun there. :p
