Just want to tell you that your avatar made my day :) I used to love that movie, even though I was a little old for it. One of the reasons I'm glad I have younger siblings....

Anyway, I prefer the first season. I found it more enjoyable when they weren't trying to cater to the bronies. I just thought it was slightly better when they were unaware of their success.
Thanks, yeah its a great flick, but great movies know no age limit.

Thats why I'm still having a hard time deciding which one I like better, it felt like they did a better job with the characters in the first season, like with Rarity for instance, her personality type is so easy to mess up on and in season 2 we never had an episode that really did her generosity right, or at least I didn't think so but on the other hand they made her hilariously overly dramatic and the couch gag is awesome. I'm hoping in season 3 they go a bit deeper with the characters like in season 1 and they can keep the wacky as long as it doesn't get too wacky, like family guy did.

Of course both would be the most picked answer! Choosing your favourite season is like choosing best pony, it's simply impossible.

Season 1 has the most consistent quality, but the overall quality was like a decent season 2 episode. Whereas season 2 had the worst episodes of the whole series, and the best. So both were equally amazing.

Season 2 was vastly superior because it had two linked episodes I especially like those ones. They make the series what it is, the other episode in between are good and I enjoy them but I sometimes catch myself thinking "ugh another one about flutter shy's lack of social skills".

Or there are times when I don't enjoy the show at all, like when those three little brats turn up and whine that they are not mature enough to have skid I mean cutie marks. Yeah ok we get that they want those godamn things, and are willing to do anything that is not R rated to get them.

The linked nightmare moon episodes at the start of s1 was great and got me hooked immediately, it introduced everything so well and painted a picture of the characters and setting. However Luna does not feature at all in the rest of s1 and when she arrives in s2 her character is drastically changed, I would have preferred her to have stayed evil and been the series antagonist, I am aware the series is aimed at snot eating five year olds and this would send them the wrong message.

The two discord episodes were fantastic for me, because I am a huge fan of Star Trek the next generation, and John de Lancie voicing Discord pleased me greatly.
The Canterlot wedding episodes were a fantastic surprise for me at the end of my exams. Because I was under the impression that season 1 one would go the same way as season 2, two linked ones at the start then the rest would be single adventures. I am delighted I was wrong.
So for that reason I prefer season 2 is better.

I liked luna in s2, I like the idea of her becoming a good pony but still stick in a past idea of how royalty was supposed to act, like expecting everyone to just bow to her wishes.

It was pretty good seeing John de Lancie playing essentially Q in mlp, I heard it will be back in s3 so it will be interesting to see how that works.

Season 1 was better.

If you're going for fan service (like season 2 was with the bronies), then you're gonna have a hard time.

Season 1 was more consistently good, but season 2 had higher peaks. So...call it even, I suppose.
This, exactly.

I could watch pretty much any season 1 episode again whenever, while season 2 has some episodes I'd probably avoid re-watching... and a good few that sort of blew my mind with their awesomeness.

I think I could go for some "Dragon Quest" tomorrow. (But now... sleep.)

Have to give it to Season 2.

Don't get me wrong, I love Season 1, but 2 was just better in all the ways that matter.

Better 2-part opener, better season finale, better songs, better animation, etc.

You may have liked her but she does not fit in with the 5 seconds of Luna we see in season one, her voice is too different. These sort of things really bother me, I know they shouldn't, but they do. I am overcoming my condition by watching continuity error riddled films, each time I complain the friend hits me with a taser.

DISCORD IS COMING BACK IN SEASON 3??!! .....who told you this?

Ill go back and watch the first episodes again at some point but I think it wasn't too bad, I mean we only got to see her very briefly after her evil or whatever side was... whatever, I thought the royal wedding had lots more holes in it, like why would twilight have princess Cadance as a foalsitter before she got her cutie mark and why did twilight keep telling her friends what the fake Cadance do when she could have just gone to princess Celestia and presented her concerns to her since princess Celestia actual knew Cadance.

I don't know if discord is coming back but I've heard that John de Lancie will be doing voice work in season 3.

She didn't use the royal voice to apologise so yeah. I thought Candace's whole existence was a bit of a plot hole. I was under the impression that Luna and Celestia were unique deity like ponies with space altering powers. Then along comes Candace who is never mentioned before and all she does is baby sit even though she is a princess, sort of defeats the point of being a princess if you need a day job doesn't it?
However we must remember that this is a show for five year old girls and a sturdy cannon is not going to be likely.

Who told ya De Lancie was coming back for season 3??

To me the whole wedding episode seemed like it was kinda thrown together at the last minute and wasn't planned as carefully as some episodes, I'm really hoping its not an indication of what season 3 has lined up since Laura Faust wont have any part of it, apparently over the course of season 2 she had less and less she was doing on mlp before she left the series all together like half way though or something. I'm ok with Celestia and Luna having relatives, I mean gods were always either having kids or pulling bits of themselves off or other less wholesome activities to make more gods.

Apparently he said he was coming back at comicon.

The early and late episodes of season 2 were pretty great, but for a while during the middle of the season they just didn't capture my attention much at all. I wouldn't say they were bad necessarily, just not particularly good. Season 1 on the other hand I'd say was consistently between good and great, so I'll go with that.

Plus... You know... The Greatest and most Powerful pony of them all sadly only appeared in one of these two seasons. I'd be lying if I said that didn't factor into my decision at all.

Although I agree with you the Canterlot wedding episode, is poorer quality structure wise than the others. To be honest a series I like has to go pretty astray to even phase me, I would probably happy if the characters went on a quest for the ultimate pair of pants. The only thing that can kill mlp for me is if they add *shudder* human children...........

I quickly came to terms with Candace's existence and I was always very happy about her, despite her lack of explanation. In fact I am delighted because it means despite my penis and stubble, I can now start a tumblr account where I pose as Princess 'Cutsie Fart' and people will accept me as cannon friendly. Oh yes the internet Bronies will be delighted by my charming flatulent (cannon friendly) antics ...............(kidding)

It would be nice if they could keep mlp awesome but its one of those things that only time will tell, I mean its main target audience tends to get rather insipid stuff aimed at it so hopefully they can keep mlp from becoming that again.

Which donkey? cause there are like four of them.

Both seasons had really good episodes within them. So I can't really choose. I like both! :D
