I know you are talking about handguns. I think that's great. But if somebody put a gun to my head (pun intended) and told me to pick the one and only gun I could ever own for my whole life, it would be neither a revolver or semi-auto handgun.

It would be a 12gauge 20" barrel pump action shotgun with a minimum five round mag tube and interchangable chokes. The various ammo types make it so adaptable. Birdshot, buckshot, sabot slugs both rifled and unrifled. It can be used in almost any situation I can think of. Plus it makes an excellent club when the ammo does run out.

15 rounds of 9MM does not stand a chance against 6 rounds of 3" 00 buckshot rounds. At least in effective handgun range in a fire fight. Especially out of handgun range.

If a person had no knowledge of handguns (never trained) and needed one; I would recommend a 357mag with a four inch barrel from a quality manufacturer. You have two ammo sizes to shoot from one gun (38special). Some revolvers hold as much as eight rounds in 357. They are not prone to misfire/malfunction like semi-autos. Simple to use.

If trained in semi-autos, the largest caliber you can shoot ACURRATELY. Mag capacity is secondary. Of course a quality manufactured weapon. Glock, Sigs, XD, 1911s, S&W, etc. Stay away from cheap autos. If the class you are looking at averages $500 new, don't buy the junk brand for $200.

A revolver, of course. You can't go Dirty Harry on someone without a revolver.
You can if you're a fan of Sudden Impact. He lost the revolver and switched to "the forty-four Magnum automatic, and correctly used, it can remove the fingerprints." There's a lovely moment when one of three hoodlums freezes, stares up the street for a moment and swears, and the camera switches to a silhouette of Harry with a ludicrously big pistol in his hand and about down to his knee.

Judging by release dates of the Desert Eagle and that film and the fact the Desert Eagle was the first, I assume that's what it was.

AussieSniper: I liked that Browning when I fired one. No malfunctions, tight groups, good feel, no issues with recoil or brass.

Michael_ab: I presume you're talking about a pump-action shotgun.

It's a 28, but it still works, yes?
The .44 auto used in sudden impact was the "44 Auotmag." That weapon is no longer in production. They did not use a desert eagle. If memory serves me right the 44 automag round is not even the same ammo that the DE uses.

What about a modern pistol that is a revolver? In this case the Mateba Autorevolver.

You replace the entire chamber, instead of every individual bullet.

Cuts reload time down to about that of a semi auto.
What I meant more by what I said as it being "modern" was that the gun was made in 1997, hence being "modern"

Well that and the fact that it's the bottom of the cylinder that's aligned with the barrel instead of the top.

Did I mention how easy it is to take care of these babies? Even the oldest sixgun can outdo a "modern pistol" in power, range and accuracy.

They also look awesome and are not espoused by these awful creatures:

As previously stated...gentleman's gun.

Revolvers may be a pain to fire, but they have more firepower than modern pistols.

However, modern semi-automatic pistols are much easier to reload and fire repeatedly.

I'd still choose revolvers because they're MUCH more powerful.

Though I'd take a MAC-10 over either of them any day. :D

Revolver as i love playing spy on TF2 and prefer the revolver to the semi-auto on Killzone 2

when i look for a gun i tend to avoid factoring in its lethality, killing someone is not high on my list of things to do

if i DID wanna kill someone i would get creative... a falling wall of high voltage wire sounds fun... or a pit-o-death
it puts the lotion on its skin
True, one should never over look creative ways of death, as long as you read the evil overlord list and understand the pitfalls of easy to escape death traps!

As for over penetration, my largest concern about it is the fact it is just that: over penetration. There is no reason to carry a weapon for self defence that is going to go clean through the would be attacker, the wall behind him and potentially into an innocent bystander.

I'm not a gun person.

I just don't see the appeal.
Then you've obviously never fired a gun. It's actually a lot of fun. Not at people, but just shooting at targets is a great stress reliever.
