A modern semi-auto pistol, probably a one of these http://www.eliteukforces.info/special-air-service/weapons/sas-handguns.php. This is namely because, if they are good enough worlds best fighting force than they are damn well good enough for me.

Hm... both have their merits, and both are equally fun to fire on the ranges... but you get the repeat action on the semi-automatics, which is fun. I don't actually own one, but I do own a revolver that I got from my dad's estate.

Now we need to size the chambers to fit 9MM bullets, replace 6 chambered revolver for an 8 chambered, replace the hammer action with lever action, and throw in a scope, then we'll be in business. For the revolving rifle I mean.

Revolver thanks, nothing with an insane caliber though.

It might only have 6 bullets chambered but you will always be able to use all 6.
Reliability for me thanks.

I'd have a .44 Magnum.
I hate to be a killjoy, but the gun pictured is for .500 :p

It says so on the side.
Damn you Google Image Search!

But who cares? Here's a better pic anyway.

Well I care, I wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise :p

And that second pic is far superior :D

M1911 all the way. i love modern pistols because they're pretty much all based on that...
Hell yes, that's my pick right there!

Colt M1911
hell yes, find me a classier gun and i'll beat you round the head with it until you relise you're wrong :p
But Gary, what about the USP? I know you love it :p
I was torn between it and the M1911 for mine, but I went with the USP in the end. I even used that sexeh pic we found on the interenets :D
USP is based on the 1911 so i thouhght i'd best go for the original. it was a hard choice though

I'd buy the modern pistol, for the sake of ammo capacity and easier, faster reloading.
but a revolver has almost twice the power
Um no not really

OT: For general recreation shooting (at the range, varmint etc.) I prefer the feel of the revolvers I've tried to the automatics I've tried. That being said I plan on purchasing at least one of both at some point and am unsure which I'd choose as my carrying gun since they both have their advantages. Also the term "modern" is not really the right way to say . Plenty of revolvers are considered modern and automatics date back to the turn of (the last) century.

In my opinion, revolvers are for people who take style over functionality.

People who like the Desert Eagle are people who don't know about it's >2KG weight, tiny clip, expensive bullets, jamming issues and painful recoil.

Personally, I'll take a Browning High-power (or a Colt 1911, but that's been discussed). Extemely reliable 9mm pistol with a 13-round magazine.

you all talk about its functionality, show me a gun where all you have to do is hear it and see it, and you will run screaming

A revolver, of course. You can't go Dirty Harry on someone without a revolver.
You can if you're a fan of Sudden Impact. He lost the revolver and switched to "the forty-four Magnum automatic, and correctly used, it can remove the fingerprints." There's a lovely moment when one of three hoodlums freezes, stares up the street for a moment and swears, and the camera switches to a silhouette of Harry with a ludicrously big pistol in his hand and about down to his knee.

Judging by release dates of the Desert Eagle and that film and the fact the Desert Eagle was the first, I assume that's what it was.

AussieSniper: I liked that Browning when I fired one. No malfunctions, tight groups, good feel, no issues with recoil or brass.

Michael_ab: I presume you're talking about a pump-action shotgun.

It's a 28, but it still works, yes?
