Ah, I just rented MK9 this sunday, so I haven't unlocked any alternate costumes yet.
Kind of off-topic, but am I the only one who finds Scorpion's fatalities as the coolest ones?

I think Sub Zeros are better. Can't beat finishing off opponents with their own skull. Noobs are pretty cool too >.< Though I haven't played it much myself so I haven't even seen all of Scorpions.

Naruto has more powerful characters (with a few exceptions), but it's been a long time since I could could them ninjas with a straight face. It's all DBZ now with the power ups and the massive energy attacks.

That being said, I found it hilarious how sluggish the MK ninjas are in-game: I throw a chain..... aaaaand spend 2 seconds standing there with my arm held out.

Before I start, what DO Cyrax and Sector look like as humans, and do their fighting styles change when they're like that?

Mortal Kombat ninjas are - out of the two camps - the ONLY ninjas that behave like damn ninjas. They do things quietly, most of the time. They keep their identities (mostly) secret and they have had insane training that would kill most men. Well...Scorpion IS dead, but you know what I mean. Granted, the MK ninjas have different origins too, but they behave as ninjas even if they're not the same.

Now, in Naruto...everybody fails their stealth checks. They SHOUT ATTACKS. Do you know what you're saying to an opponent if you shout your attacks? You're saying "I am right over here in an obvious manner, so please dodge or counter my attack!". Martial artists the Naruto characters may be, they're not real freakin' ninjas. They have so many god-freakin' weird abilities because they can't SHUT UP and assassinate someone quietly.

Now, as for a favorite from the cast, since you ask, is Subzero. My explanation for that? Freezing is cool.

Seriously though, it's a novel, innit? Freeze your opponents in weird and funny positions and get in some unprotected hits? Brilliant. I freeze someone and I actually have a bit of time to think on my next move. 'Sides, Subs was first along with Scorpion, and Scorpion isn't even a proper member of his order.

This is what Cyrax(Yellow) and Sektor(Red) looked like as humans before Shao Khan intiated the Cyber Project to turn all of the Lin Kuei clan into cyborgs. Secondly no, their fighting styles are the same.

Smoke amazingly stayed human despite the fact that older games had him as a purple android and insted, Tundra (Younger Sub-Zero) got turned into a Cyborg instead.

I mean, my answer doesn't change either way (Naruto ninjas), but it's an important question. If it's "favorite characters," I can see either group. I choose the Naruto ninjas because they have a lot more variety of design and power, and while people tend to forget it due to the fairly unstealthy title character, they're ninjas. They're spies extraordinaire. Hell, the Chuunin Exam arc showed that even the kids are up-and-coming espionage agents with the serious capability of defending themselves. That's not even taking into consideration their parents, or the Akatsuki, or just the jounin in general.

If it's a straight power discussion...Naruto ninjas. There seriously can't be any question about that, right? Hiashi or Itachi alone could massacre a good a chunk of the Mortal Kombat ninjas. Without even getting into the physical gods like Gaara or Hidan.

Screaming in an obnoxious way is never something a ninja should do.

That's not stealth. That's concealing yourself when you're already in a standup fight. Naruto, Kakashi, and Kankuro all do that (with transformation, earth concealment, and the hidden puppetry, respectively).

If you're talking keeping concealment outside combat or attacking from ambush, then "real ninja" also applies to Sasuke and Sakura (though their ambush tactics rarely work), all of Team 9 (Hinata, Kiba, and Shino), Jiraiya, Hayate, Kankuro, Haku, Kabuto, Orochimaru, a lot of the Akatsuki and several minor antagonists...the only major ones I can't recall ever acting stealthy are Might Guy and Choji.

I say better in the sense of "Which title has its Ninjas act more like well.. NINJAS!"

I admit, my knowledge of the Mortal Kombat universe is comparatively limited, but don't those ninjas just kill people? I mean, are we talking "act like fictional flip-out-and-kill-people" ninjas? Or actual ninja? I don't recall them doing any actual spying, where the Naruto universe ninja not only get a lot of it done (typically offscreen), but it's basically their primary moneymaking modus operandi.

Those 3 did some serious spying in the story mode. Mostly due to the Lin Kuei way of assessing situations. Hell even Sub-Zero got into the spying business for a bit in discovering Shao Khans true plan in using his older brother.
