The human brain created all of those, as well as the very concept of "evil".

As for the ones on the poll, I voted for medicine because it reverses our physical evolution in the long run.

Guns.. it makes war so unfair. When you look at war movies like Troy or Braveheart, you see that the fighters really needed to have skill and strategy. Now it's headshots and nukes...

That would be there pear of anguish, and there's no proof it was ever used. In fact I was watching a documentary about torture devices and one of the guys put one in his mouth to see if it actually worked, it broke.

Yep, me to. I heard sometimes they put it up your anus and activate it. I'm not gonna think about that now.

I would just say that no technology is good or evil, all objects are capable of being either, whats important is how their used, I guarantee that I can name a good and evil aspect of every one of those things in the poll.

It's going to sound stupidly philosophical and cliched, but inventions in of themselves can't be evil in the typical sense. The ways in which humans use them can turn them to evil ends, but the inventions themselves, just metal or chemicals or electricity, cannot be evil. Without human interaction, a computer can't cause laziness, a gun can't kill someone, and phones can't invade on privacy.
Yeah I agree with that general discussion throughout this. Although you could say that a lot of inventions root from being created for evil purposes. Like a gas chamber. I don't think you could see any form of good that can come from that. Unless you think that killing people you don't like or support as a good thing.

Communism.

No other invention killed over 100 million people.
Wow...nasty invention. I've gotta say, Nukes. The amount of fear-mongering that goes with them is ridiculous, and how many have actually been fired at an occupied city? Eh?

What the hell kind of thread is this? Medicine is evil because it lets people who wouldn't normally survive survive? The idea that it somehow interferes with evolution or whatever is just cobbler's awls because that's not what evolution is all about.

Here's a little food for thought. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4CIzF-rQ8g]

The only inventions one could tentatively describe as objectively evil would be devices used for torture. Simply as a concept we can't call most of things listed in this poll evil any more than we can call fire evil. Just because we used to burn "witches" at the stake that doesn't mean cooking our food is somehow immoral. Similarly, I'm not going to curse whoever invented guns when I'm being charged by an angry wild animal with big teeth.

It's tempting - and incredibly cheap - to just say "religion" and be done with it but just like many other inventions, religion has done many good things for humanity as well.

Make up, because millions of small defenceless animals are tortured and killed to produce it, and end result makes the people who use it uglier, so in affect its torturing million of animals simply to delude young women and make money.

All items are neutral until you use them, including guns and nukes, but the whole process and aim of make up is just evil.

Make up used on actors doesn't count.

Human Beings. A useless creation that has only destroyed the Earth, and has given nothing back.
I know those things are worthless, I say give the world to the reptiles again, they sure knew how to take care of it.

Seriously, I like how some people who are all about eugenics have no idea how natural selection works.
Tell me, how do you feel modern technology and resources have thrown natural selection out the window?

Note: This is not my interpretation of YOUR post, but a different, related question.

Survival of the sexiest/greediest, I'd say, but that all depends on your location/culture.

If anyone thinks it's wrong that I'd like to specifically marry and start a family with an asian woman whose heredity isn't tainted with diabetes and heart disease like my own, then they can kindly go fluff themselves, gosh durn it!

I'd say the Iron Maiden ranks up with fairly evil inventions. But I am going to go with everyone's favourite way to shut women up, the Scald's Bridle.

I hate the middle ages, I swear.
