What multiplayer map do you think is the most famous or memorable. This is a map that people who have never even played the game generally know of. My vote goes towards Rainbow Road, if only for all the times I fell off the goddamn place.

Other: chess board

for video games specifically I would say in terms of "the most people who would recognize it" might be a League of legends map according to destructiod* they have 32 million monthly players (thats monthly not a total),wow peaked at 12 million. I doubt golden eye even for it's popularity reached that

Another one bites de_dust. I mean seriously, when you have people making a 1:1 scale version of your map, and it's still played after all these years, you're definitely up there if not at the top.

Probably the Dota map. Not only is it the sole map in a ridiculously popular game (as well as it's ridiculously popular sequel), it's also the map that's the basis for the majority of maps in an entire freaking genre. Try beating that for iconic.

I'm not sure if Dota map counts...
Other than that, I will forever remember cs_mansion from Counter strike and crossfire from Half Life.

"CTF-Facing Worlds" and "ONS-Torlan" from Unreal Tournament will always be my iconic maps, but out of the ones you've listed I'd probably go with Blood Gulch.

Crash from Call of Duty 4 is pretty iconic, so much so that they even made a christmas version of it for the PC, and ported it to MW2.

I voted for Other purely because the Starcraft map on the poll should have been Lost Temple. :p

Rainbow road. Chances are if you just casually say rainbow road to a stranger they would know what it is. Or at the very least associate it to mario kart.

I was going to vote for 2Fort when I clicked the link, but then I saw Rainbow Road.

That has to be the most iconic map.

That was my immediate thought too.

Unreal Tournament was the last great multiplayer FPS. (Discuss.)
Facing worlds was pretty awful to play though, for pure gameplay and flowing team play it would be CTF-Lavagiant though the fact I won a European cup final on it versus a German clan helps it to be special =)

Also I think Strike at Karkand is more iconic than Wake Island.

What about Team Fortress 2? That's a great multiplayer fps.

Unfortunately, Lavagiant just wasn't as iconic as Facing Worlds. A version of Facing Worlds was made for UT2004 and UT3 as well, which is a good indicator of what is and isn't iconic.

Actually, a lot of iconic maps are also the completely retarded ones. Big Game Hunters (Starcraft) and 2Fort(Team Fortress 2) also spring to mind.

Gotta laugh...rainbow road? Doesn't ring any bells with me. I remember playing Mario kart but not any particular levels.
Surprised there aren't options for Call of duty...doesn't it sell enough copies to get a mention? :p

de_dust, bar none.

Even if you hate counter-strike, if you know the first thing about FPSs you know that map.

When it comes to sheer iconic power Counter-Strike holds a special place in FPSs, and de_dust has not only existed in every damn iteration of the thing since 1999, but been the single most popular map in it as well. Turn any version of the game on right now and if there are any servers running I guarantee you'll play de_dust.

I'm pretty sure if you could tally up the online hours spent in every map in every multiplayer game, de_dust would stand head and shoulders above the rest.

Does Final Destination count as a map? Otherwise, Rainbow Road for sure. I used to play Mario Kart all the time with my friends.

I have to go with Rainbow Road. Most of the others require a decent knowledge of online shooters to recognize. I'd imagine most people would recognize Rainbow Road regardless of their level of gaming experience. It also seems to be the one that gets referenced the most in both gaming and non-gaming discussions.

I know CoD wouldn't be mentioned on this website but I think Nuketown definitely will be the map I think of when I think about multiplayer gaming experiences.

Damn. I voted 2Fort because it's so obvious, but the correct answer is Rainbow Road.

Nothing on that list is within a thousand miles of competing with Rainbow Road.
