i think that the majority of people who have voted halo say so because they think it is cool to not like it while i dont like halo either i dont consider is overrated for one reason

i dont care how much you preach about "typical shooter blah blah blah" nearly everyone one of my friends who play on xbox live play it and the sheer numbers of how many people play it prove that it did something right

Halo, by far. Pretty run-of-the-mill, as far as I see it. At least Gears of War innovated the standard "everything-is-realistic-if-its-brown" shtick we see nowadays. I'd argue that Half Life was never overrated, seeing as that's a series that actually matters in terms of innovation.

Okay, So I hate Halo I really do. Here's what I don't get though. Whenever some yells Halo sucks cause it's mediocre and all been done before I rarely, if at all, see someone bring forth a shooter that is "great" and does everything different and exciting. So I propose a challenge, name one game in the FPS genre that is "great" and does everything different. Can't do it huh?

Oh, I voted Final Fantasy just because 13 is a ridiculous number. I mean really? 13 sequels and people are still going from 6 to midnight over the damn thing. Even Halo fan boys would start to be hesitant at 7.

First up thats a stupid reason to vote it overrated. Of course it DEFINATELY isnt overrated if another title is being added to the long series. It isnt overrated since theyre obviously making it to profit from it, and it isnt as if you have to buy it if you dont like the genre. I dont see FF series being omgzzored much around t'internet like I see Halo being done.

You have got to be kidding me the announcement alone that FF 13 was coming made half the crowd at E3 cream in their pants. I have friends checking the internet everyday trying to find out any more information posting in forums about how great its going to be and slandering those who dont agree.

Final Fantasy.

Halo 1 was good. The whole series is ok for a shooter.
GoW 1 was good. GoW 2 was better. Great if you're into that genre.
GTA 1, 2 and 3 were all great. 4 isn't bad.

Final Fantasy now, what was ever good about these games? The cliched emo stories? The silly people cutscenes? The endless grinding?

FF7 voted one of the best games of all time, halo and GTA suck, GTA especially i got bored of that francise after San Andreas droned on and on for so long at least when Final Fantasy does that it has an intresting story (most of the time god i hate FF12) fair enough after a long break i can go back to Halo 3 and play quite a few decent multiplayer games assuming fan boys aren't playing and Halo wars is a good game as i'm sure ODST will be.

Final Fantasy is like that grandma you don't want coming around your house any more. She used to be fun, witty and with plenty of whimsical stories about the past that were fun to hear about the first time around, but nows she's gotten a bit senile, and she keeps drinking too much and embarrassing herself and you just wish she'd get the pont and leave alone, rather than calling your house phone twelve times a day to ask if you're busy that afternoon, because she's sure shes remembered this corker you haven't heard before, it'll be great, shall I bring the brandy?

Mine goes to Halo, first one was just... awsome, one of the best games ever for it's time, but two and three? Plus console exclusive just... sucked... I felt like I'd been cheated to be honest. Halo 3 was soooo overated, I can remember the 'game of the decade' printed on the front - how wrong they were!

Half Life's ok, love the storyline. Wish they didn't take os long to release them >.<

Final Fantasy was a bit boring... the style made my eyes bleed - were those pecs drawn on? Well actually, why did they have to show them in the first place? I felt a bit of a perv playing it... still haven't finnished it...

GoW was alright, first one was awsome! Didn't play anything else really on my 360 when i got it but number two? Sucked... Just... Awful... I think they tried to cram too much into one game... and all elements ended up like they were made half-heartedly.

GTA, I had VC. I enjoyed it, good laugh with mates and fun to play on your own. But i figured once you played one you'd played them all.

Sorry for ranting I just really really hate it when sequels crucify the originals

All the game series up there are there because they are the best of the best or among the best games in there genre. Gears of War had great cover and shoot game play. God of War has amazing slasher, brawling like action. Final Fantasy games have good stories and are great role playing games. FEAR has a great ambiance and shooting action. GTA games have great free roaming mayhem. Metal Gear Solid has solid (sorry) game play. Halo 1 has great game play and guns and Halo 2 and Halo Wars just rock (I didn't like Halo 3 though others might consider it to perfect). I think that the most over ratted game series is the Pokemon series. I haven't touched a pokemon game since the gold version was released but just to continue to recycle the same game play on three generations of hand held systems, that isn't right people.

Final Fantasy 12 was sad and makes me shudder to even think about it. It tried a new formula for the combat and clothing system (AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH). Sure the formula was getting old but Square Enix shouldn't have that the game play would please fans.

I am not Final Fantasy fan. I just pick them up every once in while just to see how the franchise is doing. It ain't doing so hot right now.

First I wanted to say halo, but nowdays it's not that popular, and it's more of a game to bash on when you're bored than anything else.

So insead I'll go with Killzone 2. Sure it looks pretty, but the gameplay is so damn normal you want to puke. If you're making an fps, make it have unique gamelpay, and not just the same as every single fps on the market. Graphics don't overrule gameplay.
