Poll: Most overrated game/series ever?

Anyway, my vote goes to Final Fantasy.

Anything thats popular is overrated.

As soon as something becomes popular, you start to get people who either cannot see any flaws in it, or that explain away the flaws as unimportant. After that, you get contrary people who dislike such blind faith, and they build up those flaws into game-breakers.

You just can't win really.

Hmm... shouldn't really be a poll, but then, I would've voted Halo anyway. It has by far the most annoying fanboys. After that, probably WoW (which is nowhere near as 'epic,' refined or generally good as people seem to think it is) and the recent GTA titles.

Only because I have a friend who seems to be on some kind of mission to get me to play it, F.E.A.R. He continuously speaks of it as the greatest game in existence, but I find that... it's nothing I haven't seen before.

Whyyyyyy am I not surprised to see Halo as the most overrated? There is nothing wrong with the game as far as I'm concerned and it can't still be overrated because everyone seems to hate it now!

I like Half Life fine but still my vote goes to it, it's just a first person shooter with a nice setting and some puzzle sequences. The sheer level of praise it is getting is in idrect proportion to Halo's lack thereof and I never really noticed a high level of Halo Hate before Yahtzee's review so my guess is people are easily influenced.

The reason the Halo series is the most overrated, is because the quality of the game is equal, if not worse or slightly better, too most games. Yet the hype, marketing, publication praise, etc, put its rating too high. With the exceptions of GTA and Gears of War, every other series on that list is kept within the industry for the most part. These three series' are the ones that made it past the usual hype barriers and became the overhyped games you see.

To put it simply, Halo is the most overrated series because variable X (qualty) is kept the same while variable Y (hype) is raised, and Y is not kept proportional too X. Halo's lead in this poll is due to vairable Y, not X.

Ok overrated final fantasy, but only 7-10:2. The others are masterpieces but those are just garbage. 8 is meh and 9 is ok but it's not enough to counter the emofest of 7 and dress up pretty princess time with 10:2.

My vote was stuck between Gears, Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear. In the end I voted for Gears of War. FEAR is great and Half-Life is really good too. Halo would be my next overrated game, but the mutiplayer is easy to play and has a huge array of game modes.

halo is the most overated....
how can you even think that god of war is overated? its a great game and is always fun to play, and is rated just about what it should be

Halo is overrated but I don't think it's the most overrated.
(mainly it doesn't get it because of co-op play)

Metal Gear Solid is another series that's a contender for being most overrated.
(But, I've never liked stealth games, so to be fair...)

I'm going to have to go with Final Fantasy for the most overrated series(of that list).
I mean it's a series of cookie cutter similar games, in which the grind gets dull very quickly.
With similar stories and stock characters ...sweet occasional cinematics don't make up for that.
