Whyyyyyy am I not surprised to see Halo as the most overrated? There is nothing wrong with the game as far as I'm concerned and it can't still be overrated because everyone seems to hate it now!
Yeah whenever ANYONE says the word "overrated" Halo is the first one almost everyone here thinks off.

Since everyone likes Half-Life so much...I guess that is overrated too. All PS3 fans keep using MGS4 and Uncharted as examples of awesome games on the PS3...I guess those games are overrated too.

To me actually, there is no such thing as an overrated game. This word is just used by n00bs to say "Hey, this game beat out my favorite game of game of the year."

Anyone who ever uses this term in my presence is not a true gamer because a true gamer never looks at a game for it's fanbase. A true gamer looks at the game for what the games is.

Whenever a game comes out there are three categories of fans. The ones who love it, the ones who hate it, and the ones who are indifferent about it. If you love it then you are a fan of it, if you hate it then you hate it, if you are indifferent then you either never played it or never cared to begin with.

Like I have said over the years, anything that is popular is considered "overrated" by a forum group. Any game that has a fanbase is "overrated" which is about maybe 90% of the games today.

I will never say to anyone that a game is overrated....more like "overplayed" which is different context.

So what game is most overrated? All of them. They are all overrated because they all have a fan base behind them.

Haze had like no hype at all and was nearly completely ignored when released.
Actually maybe it did, I just don't pay much attention to marketting in all truth.

LoL!!! Gears of War is not overrated you say. Tell me why then is aparently the best game on 360 has a 7 hour singleplayer experience with a B-grade story (at best), characters straight from the movie 300 and brought to the sci-fi age and contains painfully repetitive gameplay.
Gears of war came out before 300, so.... yeah. I blew a great big hole in your argument there :p.
I don't really know to be honest. All high profile games fail to live up to hype in one way or another which i guess makes them all overrated in some way. I've gone for Metal Gear Solid simply on how terrible i think 4 is. Infinitely respawning baddies in a "stealth" game? Designing the controls for stealth and then forcing me to use those controls in a third person shooter setting half the time? Stupid.
Also what the hell? I have to wait half an hour for the game to load the first time whilst watching an already frail snake pretty much commit suicide by smoking about 20 cigarettes.

And why is the main character a pirate? Where's the wooden leg?

I've never liked Half-Life...always wondered why people used to drool over that game...Hell I bought Orange Box because my friends begged me to give the series a second chance and ended playing only portal and a bit of TF2. And hell as much hate as the Halo series gets at least they *try* to change stuff up in the games...they don't recycle the same puzzles and shit over and over...(oh look ANOTHER seasaw puzzle zomgz)

The Metal Gear series is a close second for me but then again I've never really liked any stealth games besides the old Tenchu ninja games for PS1. I did think MGS2 was a pretty decent game though...the otheres were meh to me.

I like Half Life fine but still my vote goes to it, it's just a first person shooter with a nice setting and some puzzle sequences. The sheer level of praise it is getting is in idrect proportion to Halo's lack thereof and I never really noticed a high level of Halo Hate before Yahtzee's review so my guess is people are easily influenced.
I voted the same. But just so you know the Halo Hate has been strong since before the release of the first. At that time it was just PC elitists saying "console FPS? pffshwa!"; some Sony, Nintendo, and Sega fanboys too.

Then it came out and there where people who didn't care for it growing bitter and resentful because some people loved it. And more elitists and fanboys started to hear/care about Halo and begun their cycle of hatred.

Then Halo 2 came out and some people who liked the first felt betrayed ("It's different! How dare they?") and started to hate it too.

Now Halo is such a huge franchise that people are hating it just to be different.

I suppose it is widely said that Halo is overrated. But i mean, any game with that much hype is going to have to be overrated. That's not to say that i'm standing up for Halo. Seeming as IMO the first was good and the two after that were expensive expansion packs.
How could Halo 2 be considered an expansion pack? Even ignoring the vast graphical upgrade Halo 2 changed every single aspect of gameplay. Vehicles could now be destroyed, Covenant ones had boosts added, every weapon was changed in some way, the campaign was longer, vehicles could be boarded, online multiplayer was added, the number of usable weapons and vehicles was nearly doubled, the health system was altered.

If that's an expansion pack then what sequel isn't?

I could maybe see you calling Halo 3 an expansion pack but even if it is it's a damn expansive one (note the "a").

Final Fantasy. Yes, they're fun, but only... *counts on fingers*... none of them could hold my attention all the way to the end.

My favorite Square games are Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG. The only FF game I could ever see myself completing is 4.

Gears of War is popular, but it's not that big.
Halo series is a definite. Even though Goldeneye is the best console shooter.
Metal Gear wasn't that big until Metal Gear Solid was released.
F.E.A.R is overrated? Da fuck!?!?
Half-Life is borderline. Yes borderline. Great story and dialogue, but with Half-life deathmatch only for PC, it's not that big of an online community.
And my vote. Final Fantasy. I really don't have anything to say. Read every "Should FF7 be remade?" topics. I'm sure you're going to find at least 12+.

Honorable mention goes to my favorite series. Super Mario Series. Sheer platforming goodness yet people don't like it and wish he'd die. That's the best way to thank the character that brought gaming back.

I would say COD, while being better than some of these games (though not all by far), almost everyone seems to love it, so i think it's the most overrated.

Mainly because the only Metal Gears people outside of Japan had access to before Metal Gear Solid were crap.
(BTW fixed your typo)
Sam Fisher is MIA.
That is true but none-the-less
Metal Gear is under
Metal Gear Solid is over
