All I can say is, WTF are these cards that they are so thrice-cursed important? Sheezus, what'd the poor tyke do in the first place outside of "lie"(the most piss-poor offense to get angry with a child over in my book)?

What the hell happened to spanking?! Why do people feel the need to go above and waaaaaay beyond what is necessary?

People have had it drilled in their heads by media and other sources that spanking is bad. Nobody says anything about forcing children to drink hot sauce so clearly its okay. This tends to happen a lot now. If they aren't told something is bad, it must not be. Common sense is far from common.

I think that this goes way to far. You should never physically punish a child. The child may have done something wrong but that is not the way to handle it. I think the mother needs some therapy. I just feel awful for that poor little boy.

In terms of child abuse, this is pretty weak sauce compared to what happens everyday to thousands of kids.
So what if it's "weak sauce" or not? It's not a competition of who had a more traumatizing childhood or not. Punishing your kid like that is still not okay. Ground him, sure, but don't resort to stupid tactics like this. Everyone makes mistakes, especially kids and teens.

"What do you get when you lie?""The hot sauce."
"What do you get when you pull a card?""The cold shower."

That just sounds wrong.

Also, I love how Mrs. Hot Sauce McCold Shower responded in obvious sarcasm to Mrs. Dr. Phil's remark.

I won't watch the videos because Dr. Phil is a big dumb stupid phony. Its possible the mother is on tape doing insanity. And if she's insane, children should be removed from the premesis. But...

How is hot sauce any different from being forced to hold a bar of soap in your mouth? Theres a classic punishment that we watch on loop every christmas when the christmas story plays all day. What if the kid strangled a puppy? Would you feel different about the punishment then? I think hotsauce, cold showers, and a firm beating would fit that crime.

Im wondering what the child actually did as there is no mention..

Actually, there is in the video. He got in trouble at school, and then lied about it. Doesn't deserve a mouthful of hotsauce (poor kid) and a freezing cold shower, that's just brutal.
Hey, rules are rules. In that house, you don't lie to your parents. End of.

Seriously? Rules are rules? Words cannot explain the intense ignorance of your statement.

Being from Louisiana, my opinion is bias. Hot sauce would be a treat. The cold-shower would suck though.

I had the hot sauce treatment when I swore, sometimes I had soap. The cold shower was a little much.

Probably not the thing to do to an adopted child for lying, but you can't let a kid lie like that, can you?

Should you do it? No, I don't think so.

But child abuse? Come on. Draw a line here, people.

That's a little much, but really, hotsauce isn't all that bad, it's not like he's suffering permanent damage. Sure, he'll stay away from hot sauce and never take a cold shower again, but realistically, while it's a little extreme, it's probably not all that much worse than your parents telling you to go out back and cut your own switch.

And now it's at 71.

There is something fucking wrong with this site.

EDIT: Oh, and I haven't read through everything about it, but...why the fuck film it?

There are tons of other effective ways to teach a child right from wrong. Putting burning liquids in his mouth and forcing him to take a freezing shower is not at all proportional to the actual wrongdoing, which was lying to stay out of trouble. Both of those punishments are outdated, barbaric, and can cause physical and emotional damage to the child. Hot sauce at his age can cause serious damage. A cold shower can kill a child his age.

To the guy above me (master of worlds/...cutting your own switch is pretty bad. It's terrible in the first place to strike a child with a foreign object, but it's worse to humiliate him by making the thing that whips him. That's not just physical torture, that's psychological torture. That sort of shit screws people up.

And there's an obvious emotional disconnect between the mother and child.

I don't want to be passing judgment but.. wow.

Making a kid drink hot sauce isn't punishment, it's training. I see nothing wrong with her punishment. She could have done much worse, such as breaking his arms or kicking him in the ribs.

The media these days is too sensitive. If I go to the market and see some kid screaming nonstop and biting random people, I do a fist pump when his mother comes up and smacks him upside the head.
