Anything by Dave Grohl.
This.

Also, Rise Against, Sum 41, Paloma Faith, Linkin Park, Paramore and Disturbed all made some good stuff after 1996.

And it's not like everything before 1996 was music palyed by angels descended from heaven. Due to how long ago the music was made, all of the bad, bland, boring stuff has been forgotten in favour of what was actually good. There has always been bad music, you're just not looking hard enough for the good stuff from now, OP.

love it or hate it?

I can find no good music to think of that was created after 1996, nothing remotely memorable, except for Rammstein, who continues to pump out the good shit.
You aren't looking hard enough.

There is so much good music out there, ignorance is no excuse to say there is no good music being created anymore. There is, you just haven't found it.

Look harder.

I'm not falling for this troll...

There has been plenty of great music since then - I respect your opinion if this isn't in fact a troll but you must be ignorant to not have heard any of the great albums that have come out in the last 14 years.

Though if you're not a metal fan (you listen to Rammstein so you probably aren't) this may not apply.

No, the expiration date for music was on January 1, 1997. Everything has been crap ever since then. I really miss the Spice Girls.
This. AS of 00:01 January 1st, 1997 music is officially spoiled, and if you drink it you're likely to end up in the hospital.

...Wait, what?

I pray to god this was sarcasm (it's hard to tell in the internet). American Idiot was fucking AWEFUL.
No way, it was easily the deepest and musically varied album. Heaps good.
I mean, if you like it more power to you, but you're the first person I've met that thought it was better than Dookie or Nimrod. Personally the only song off of it that I really liked was Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

Considering the ratio of music made after 1996 to music that is actually worth a damn made after 1996, I'd say generally bad, with a few notable exceptions.

Yeah nothing great came out after 1996, but there are some good bands like SOAD, Eminem (D12), Muse, Opeth, and many more I can't think of right now. They're good, just not great.

Edit: Just found out Natalie Imbruglia released her first album, Left from the Middle in 1997. Listen to the first 3 songs on that album, especially Big Mistake.

Van Canto, a capella metal :D They're pretty damn cool :p
Woot! *High Five* Van Canto are amazing. I never could've imagined a capella metal before I heard them, but now it's one of my most listened to albums. I'll echo some of the other metal props being handed out as well - I really like Sonata Arctica and Kamelot, and I'd be remiss not to mention Epica.

Aside from Metal, there's the rise of chiptune bands like Anamanaguchi and I Fight Dragons, class Drum and Bass acts like Concord Dawn, Pendulum and Matrix & Futurebound. Plus quirkier acts like Mr. Scruff, Imogen Heap, Röyksopp, Gorillaz and Emiliana Torrini.

Music of all sorts is so easily accessible these days, that to write off 14 years of music as rubbish (with the exception of rammstein, obviously /sarcasm) isn't just short-sighted, it's blind. Sure, there's Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and *insert generic R&B artist here* but there is a huge amount of amazing music being put out all the time.

For certain genres... possibly? But really, this statement is just plain ignorant. After 1996: Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Franz Ferdinand, Cage The Elephant, Gorillaz, the majority of Oasis' stuff. And what about brand new awesome artists that have just popped up in the last few years like Matt Costa and Laura Marling? You've also got Disturbed and Nightwish, alot of their songs are good. I disagree with your statement.

Also, if you actually think that when music is made changes how good it is. Then... that's ridiculous.

Basically, can we all agree that anyone saying that "All music before/after/during *insert dates here* is crap" isn't looking hard enough?

From greenday or over all? because if you mean over all you are causing the entire music industry to weep.

OT: There is a crapload of good music out since 1996, just there is also a crapload of bad stuff. All you have to do is look. (I like putting "metal" or whatever in wikipedia finding a list of metal bands and checking them out at random on youtube.) Also yes Rammstein does rock.

There are some fun bands out there like kissin' dynamite (somewhere between manowar and G&R)

Personally, I struggle to find an artist from the last 10 years who really wows me. I have found alot of songs I thought were "ok"
