Not all music was good in '96, just like not all music is good now.
It's a matter of opinion fo shizzle.

love it or hate it?

I can find no good music to think of that was created after 1996, nothing remotely memorable, except for Rammstein, who continues to pump out the good shit.
I laugh at this statement, Rammstein is fucking awful.

Most of my music is after 1996, and it's good shit.
I think this comment is the entire thread, you like Rammstein, this guy doesn't - it's all up to personal taste.

Also, some music was good, some music was bad... you're just looking down the wrong hole.

Daft Punk, started in 1992 and is still active. Kicks ass, so, well. I voted 'It's good'.

Preeeetty much exactly what Neutraldrow listed off is proof enough that the arbitrary date thing doesn't work well. Same list, though I can't name much in the way of J-pop, not to say I don't like it, but I simply don't know it well enough. But I guess I have to add one bit of evidence against it too so I'll put down Galneryus and second mark down for Sonata.

Come on, you gotta like those! It also proves that some of the good ones are popular, and some are obscure post-grunge bands no-one's ever heard of.

Am I to assume you're around my age, Soilent? Because I graduated high school in 1995 and generally believe that any music made after 1995 is complete crap. Except Dragonforce. I love Dragonforce. They're carrying the torch of 80s-style speed metal.

If I have to live without bands like Mindless Self Indulgence I don't think I can live in that world. Also it's just music people have different tastes just because you don't like doesn't mean others don't like what BFMV, Airborne or so many others hell even Lady Gaga. If you actually go around and listen to it you will find something you like.

Anyone saying music has only got worse since 1996 clearly never actually lived through the 70's or 80's. Most of the music was absolute shite. The good stuff survives. In 30 years time people will be asking if there has been any decent music after 2016, and they'll get the same results as now.

Not to mention the nostalgia glasses effect.

While music is subjective so there may really be no bands that appeal to you after that arbitrary date it seems more likely to me that you arn't looking hard enough. We live in a time of greater tolerance of a varied taste in music and the internet allows us to have access to bands other than the ones that big record companies dictate we should. There is good music in every genre being released constantly.

Sure. I can name at least 3 albums per year since 1996 I love.
Bands in the metal genre continuously improve over the years. You just don't know where to look if you think the music made today sucks.

You know, I see this exact thread a lot on other forums. Most of the people who complain are the ones only listening to the radio and TV. Of course most of that shit sucks, seeing as it's just the same old shit rehashed time and time again by a different artist.

You posted Lady Gaga, On top of that, it was a fucking horrible song.

Why do people think she is some kind acceptable being in the world of music?

"But she's a breath of fresh air!"

She's not, She needs to fuck off and rot somewhere.
Well, each to his own I guess. That is, however, the only Lady Gaga song I liked.

Well, some of my favourite albums were made before 1996 (Demanufacture by Fear Factory in '95 for example) but FF's new album is fucking incredible.
As for the Green Day option in the poll, you forgot Nimrod in '97. :p Brilliant album.
There's been plenty of great metal releases since then. Sure there's been no Black Album or Seasons in the Abyss, but there's been The Blackening, Crack The Skye and Death Magnetic (I seem to be the only person in the universe who thinks it's a brilliant album. Well, everyone said it was great when it came out, but now it's cool to hate Metallica again...)
Anyway, my point is, there's still great music and always will be, too.

That.
For example metal, some of the artists and bands in the metal genre just gets better and better.

Exactly. One example I can think of is Lamb of God. Also Mastodon has gotten better in my opinion.

Daft Punk's Discovery album came out in 2001, therefore your argument is void.
