Why '96?

I personally think 90% of all music made after 2001 is terrible.

Why I don't know, but that just seemed to be the year that music started sucking on an astronomical level.

Then you aren't looking hard enough. There are good musicians now as much as ever. Seriously, Depeche Mode is still making music so that should be all you need.

I found plenty of good music that has been made after 1996. I list some of the bands I like, and maybe you'll find something that interests you.

Nightwish, Lights, Tarot, 3 Doors Down
Tarot was initiated in the 80s... so don't think it really counts, even if their better stuff was after Marco joined Nightwish
They still made music after '96, so I thought I'd throw them in.

I'm sorry, but WHAT!?!?!?!?
How bout music after 1724, was that all good music? Or all shitty music? Take your pick. Really, it doesn't matter. There is music. Whether it is "good or bad" is entirely up to personal choice.

And, if you can find no music made after 1996[arbitrary date] that you like, you might not be looking hard enough.
I belive this but i couldn't resist saying green day, i mean is that a joke

The only reason a lot of people say that is because all the shit music which was made back then has been forgotten. I'm almost positive that people will look back and say "Oh wow, the 10's had all the great music! Everything in the 2030's is crap".

Pretty much all my favourite bands are post 1996.
Devin Townsend (started in '95, but made his best albums in '97)
Protest the hero
Sikth
Machine head (who released their first album in '94, has their two best albums in 2003 and 2007.)
And Dozens of other bands. People who assume all new music is shit is clearly ignorant and hasn't bothered looking for it, or dismisses anything new out of hand.

I was tired as hell and a bit drunk when I made this thread, I forgot several bands that I do enjoy post 1996, my fault.

Also, yes the Green Day option is there to pick out the idiots.

It's very hit or miss. So I voted some good and some bad.
Normally I agree, but I appreciate almost every artist/band I've heard since that time with the exception of Ke$ha.
She's just bad. Like for example. I don't like Coldplay but some of there songs are awesome. So again, hit or miss.

I'd hate to be a gullible enough teenager to be influenced by her song lyrics. :/
Too late. At least over here.

ummm plenty of good music after 1996

Queens of the Stone Age
All That Remains
Darkest Hour
Blink-182
Foo Fighters
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rise Against
System of a Down
Tool

Granted some of these bands have work pre-1996, but nonetheless there is good post-96 music out there. Truth be told, I had to scroll through my itunes library.

You put a neutral option in there, and broke your poll.

There is a lot of utter shite on the radio these days. I can feel my brain cells dying when I listen to the charts. But dig deeper and there's some pure gold coming through as well.

Also, Green Day's American Idiot album was their best, but that's kind of like saying that Saddam was the best brutal murderous dictator Iraq ever had.

love it or hate it?

I can find no good music to think of that was created after 1996, nothing remotely memorable, except for Rammstein, who continues to pump out the good shit.
Try listening to the band Hurt. They are excellent musicians.

May I ask you why you state that people that prefer American Idiot are idiots?

Since taste in music is (for the most) a personal issue, such a claim is without merit, and thus void.
I am disappointed in your lack of respect for other peoples taste in music.
