how are we objectively supposed to answer to this?
Yeah i whole-heartedly disagree with the OP.
Examples: Three Days Grace, Lost Prophets, Thousand Foot Krutch and Rise Against.

Oh for fuck sake, I thought the thread said 1986. not 1996.

Anyway, I like music from before and after. Pretty much the only music I have before then is a few Dream Theater albums and a few Death albums. There might be a few more but I've forgotten now.

Look, there's always good music, but people's tastes are different, so what's popular might not be for you. However, at any given time there's going to be music you like, you just haven't found it.

I can find no good music to think of that was created after 1996, nothing remotely memorable, except for Rammstein, who continues to pump out the good shit.
Ok Computer Radiohead and beyond.

Eminem's first 3 albums.

Coldplay.

Muse.

Californication, By The Way and some of Stadium Arcadium by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Gorillaz.

Obvously good music has been made since 1996, you just create these empty statements about music which are utter dogwank.

Massive Attack's best album, Nine Inch Nails' best album, Radiohead's best albums yada yada yada.

I love a lot of music post 1996. There's shit, but there's always shit, in every era. It just so happens that musical variety picked up again in the 90s, so you got a bigger variety of shit, as well as a bigger variety of what was good. But there's a huge amount of great music that's come out since 96 that can't just be ignored.

I don't like quite a bit of it, but some of it is good, especially the comedy

Machine Head- The Blackening and Through The Ashes Of Empires are two of the best metal albums ever made, and are from 2007 and 2003 respectively. Of course, there are plenty of other examples of ass kicking metal since 1996.

1996, incidentally, was the year that Tomas Kalnkoy's (later of Catch 22, Streetlight Manifesto and Bandits Of The Acoustic Revolution, three of te greatest ska bands of all time)first band, Gimp, released Smiles For Macavity, which is his first ever album. So far, he has done no wrong.

Maybe not a lot of music to my taste, but certainly not bad.

Besides, I also loved American idiot, I am a massive Franz Ferdinand fan, I think Aerosmith's Honking on Bobo album was incredible, big fan of some of the Eagles newest work (saw them at the O2 two years ago, fantastic gig), Bruce Springsteen's Working on a Dream is some of the best work he's done in years.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are alright in small doses, some pop music isn't exactly bad.

In fact, apart from the trend towards the generic which can be witnessed in every form of music ever, I'd say this last decade and a half haven't been significantly better or worse than any of the last ones, and anyone who says otherwise is a musical dinosaur or extremely narrow minded.

Oh, and the White Stripes first album rocked heavy.

The Mars Volta in all their glory came after 1996. As did At The Drive-In (although their first album was terrible), Foo Fighters, Muse, Coldplay, Dance Gavin Dance, etc. It's just you have to sift through a LOT of pop-trash to get to it.

I laugh at this statement, Rammstein is fucking awful.

Most of my music is after 1996, and it's good shit.
Its all a matter of Opinion.
Kinda makes this thread a bit pointless then doesn't it?

How can you pick tha yea for the dcline of music? There ar always good bands out there.
Arcade fire, Ra Ra riot, Flaming Lips, Battes,The Shins, Klaxons, Amanda Palmer both her solo stuff and with the Dresden dolls, Belle and Sebastian, Eels, Regina specktor Explosions in the sky-All good. Sure there's crap. But there always is and always will be. The Justin Beibers of this world will always be there, waiting like wolves.

The issue here is that there was good and bad music pre-1996 but people only tend to remember the good stuff, people have mentioned many many good albums post-1996 but it is often drowned out by the crap that has been made post-1996. I'm sure in 20 years time or so there will be many an argument saying that "no good music has been made post-2016" citing many of the albums that have been stated here and completely ignoring the crap ones that have been made.

Parents in the 1960s hated their kids listening to Elvis
Parents in the 1970s hated their kids listening to the Sex Pistols

Should I go on?

99% is pure shit. There are a couple good bands, though, I particularly enjoy Jet and...uh...well Jet is good. Other than that, there are a few bands that have a decent song or 2 but overall are terrible. I'm also not counting new releases by older bands like Foo Fighters and the new AC/DC album, they're always good.
