You know, I think you can quite possibly go get fucked. "Uber shittiness"... You seem to have no clue what the hell you are talking about, and with a closed mind like that you shouldn't even be asking the damn question. Personally I find "heavy" metal (I don't get this whole "power/death/black/dark/plated" metal... I've yet to meet someone who can tell me the difference between Black, Dark and Death.) a load of rubbish, seeming to consist mostly of screaming at the mic. But you know what? I don't condemn it. Why? Because there's a chance I might be listening to the wrong track.Sundavar said:EDIT: I've changed a few things to account for genres that i didn't think were very popular, but i guess are. I.E. Rap has been removed, for uber shittiness,
Yes, I'm quite aware of this. Perhaps I stated my post incorrectly when I said Nirvana was the "first" Grunge band, while what I meant was they were one of the grandfathers of the Grunge movement. But yes, Grunge was around before the grunge movement, however was not popular, and probably would be known today as "indie" if it were not for bands such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam who were commercially successful.ravens_nest said:Grunge has little to do with punk. My favorite genre is Grunge, which is technically considered punk. My favorite bands are Foo Fighters, Puddle of Mudd, The Offspring, Three Days Grace, and of course, my personal favorite, the first and best grunge band in existence: NIRVANA.
It has it's roots in hard rock or heavy metal at the time. It progressed from wanting to retain the feel of angsty metal but cutting the excess.
Alternative Rock was formed, and the term 'grunge' coined by Mark Arm of Mudhoney, (but before he formed them) and it was used to describe most of the similar sounding bands that came from Seattle... Nirvana (who most certainly did not start grunge, they merely became the largest commercially), Alice in Chains, Mother Love Bone (later became Pearl Jam), Mudhoney and Sound Garden.
