I Like Everything, but my favorite is Progressive Rock (Rush,Yes Dream Theater, King Crimson) all parts of the songs are complex and different.

Mostly metal, in all it's wonderful ear-wrenching forms.

Still, I also enjoy a lot of rock and punk, while I do like listening to a little bit of light jazz as well, although I don;t listen to jazz that often.

Also, classical and symphonic music is wonderful, and it really helps calm me down and destress me.

Also,

Japanese music.

You can laugh at me if you want.
I'm not laughing - I'm going to agree instead, since I like listening to Japanese music as well.

And if you think that a general Black Metal tag could go on just any band, that just shows me how little you know about metal.
Oh, an "unholier than thou" elitist. Take that shit to Youtube where it belongs.
Awesome! Someone who knows nothing about metal, but attempts to criticize me anyway!

Calling me an elitist isn't going to change the fact that you're wrong, bud.

I think he was going on at the fact that metalheads often act all elitess about obscure bands and look down on anyone who likes popular bands who they view as having sold out. I gathered all this from some thread yesterday.

But to the OP I listen mostly to Classic Rock and punk, also country and musical soundtracks (I don't know why), I'm quite open to most other types of music though I find metal and rap to often be hard to listen to with much of it sounding too similar to me (could be I just don't quite get it or don't have the right ear for it).

Yeah, I gathered that that was what he was going on. However, if you look at the genres I listed as my favorites, you'll see that I'm far from an elitist. I may have been like that when I was 15, but I've since learned the joy of multi-genre listening.

Punk is rock.
Hip-hop and rap are the same thing.
Punk rock, rock, hip-hop, and rap, as you list them, are all actually forms of jazz.

With different names.

So, the choice is Jazz or Folk.

I choose both.

Also, where is classical?
How dare you forget such amazing music?

I called you an elitist because your comment reeked of "I'm better than you." I said the the genre "suicidal depressive" black metal sounded stupid and a simple "black metal" should be sufficient. You decided that the difference was so obvious I should know of it, and decided to belittle me instead of trying to explain it.

Mayhaps being an ass wasn't your intention, but that's certainly what you achieved. Way to go.

The only ass here would have to be you, seeing as you're not accepting the fact that you don't know what you're talking about. Go to any metal-centric forum to chat with people who've been listening to metal for 10+ years, and I guarantee you, you'd be laughed offstage.

Simply put, if you don't like being corrected, stop quoting me.

I like rock, but I get annoyed when people listen to heavy metal and black metal so loud, it breaks your eardrums in half. I still enjoy hip-hop, but not the rappers who go on about drugs, girls, gangs, etc. I prefer the hip-hop that tries to tell a message, without going overboard with swearing and "stories" about the street.

I'm exactly the same way.
You should check out Dälek, they're a phenomenal Rap duo with dark, noisy soundscapes.
