My first was IX and I loved it to bits. Then I went over to VIII and had to quit halfway through the game due to the atrocious story and terrible characters. I tried VII, but the awful graphics and the slow and obtuse story prevented me from getting far.

I did try a few of the older ones on my SNES emulator, didn't really get hooked.

Final Fantasy III (better known as VI later on). Rented it back in the day for my Super Nintendo. An excellent starting point, I might add. It's an exceptional entry in the series, even in their already quality SNES lineup.

Jesus, I feel old.

Technically I played 7 first, but only the PC demo. Also FF Tactics Advance, but I'm not counting that.

My first full Final Fantasy was X, and it's still my favorite.

IV was my first. I never finished it, however... I should rectify that one of these days.

My first was X, and I found it bearable, to say the least. I wanted to see how the story ended, so that kept me playing, even through the difficult parts.

8 was my first. My cousin borrowed it from his friend and I always watched him play. I eventually rented it out myself, but I was way too young to understand the intricacies of the story or even how the junction system worked. I own it for real now and I'm kinda stuck on disc 3. FF10 was the first one I ever finished. I clocked in a massive amount of hours on FFXII and should probably get back to it one of these days. I doubt I'll ever fight Yiazmat though...

Number 3 on the DS - I was a little late to the game, and didn't actually like it too much...

Then I played Lost Odyssey and figured out why everyone loved JRPGs.

All about FF7, I've played that game a few times now.
FF8 was good but lacked something; I think they concentrated too much on the graphics.
FF9 sucked balls; I'm not even sure what happened at the end or who the hell I was fighting (Deus Ex Machina anyone?).
FF10 was good, and so was 12, but you would get to the point where all your characters had every ability and therefore were all the same.

FF5 and 6 I played a bit but just lost interest at some point, it might've been the graphics. Luckily I played FF7 when it came out, and so i thought its' graphics were awesome at the time :D

Ofcourse my first proper Final Fantasy was number 7 just to see what all the fuss was about, having recently completed I actually really liked it.

Because of that i'm now gonna go on to play FF9, buy 13 when its out and maybe even 14.

FF8. It was awful. It was slow, it forced you into long and meaningless conversation and sidequests, it had massive gaping plot holes, and it was all-round dull.

I then played FF7, because I heard it was better. I got to just past the point where Cloud dressed in drag and got felt up by wrestlers before I realised it might just be even worse. :/

My first was ten and I didn't care for it, so I sold it back, first time I actually liked one of them was the FF3 on the DS.
