They have a saying about arguing over the internet (this counts, I guess). I will not repeat it because I don't have a specific desire to get banned today.

Bottom line is, if you're arguing with someone who you don't know over the story of a game you haven't even played, mankind as a whole has lost.

Halo fanboys are touchy about story... with good reason.

Now, I'm sure general wisdom holds that being in the army makes you disciplined, yada, yada, yada.

They forget to mention that you have to be stupid enough to want to go stand in front of bullets, aggressive and at the very least, willing to go along with the crowd, though the general rule seems to be fratboy mentality.

Military types generally have objectionable personalities, it's what makes them good at shooting and dying.

It's reading things like this that make me glad I don't play games over XBL.

Having completed my mandatory 9 months of service I can say from experience that the army is a veritable basin for much of the useless pea-brained scum among the populace. Of course this doesn't go for everyone who's in the service, but anyone who tries convincing me that the majority of soldiers in any army are intelligent and well-mannered chaps is a fucking liar and needs to sit in a corner with the doofus-hat on their head.

In short, yes, you were right to tell that douchebag off, and I congratulate you for doing it without stooping to the guy's level.

It's some guy over LIVE who you'll never meet, you gain nothing from the argument (Even if you 'win'), and you end up looking like just as big a douche as him (Even with eloquent responses). Some people are just looking for a fight, verbal or otherwise, and it's always just a better idea to ignore them and drop the subject. Especially over something so trivial as a video game.

Apart from thinking it was a bit trollish to deliberately slur Bungie's storytelling in the face of someone clearly given to hyperbole, he does seem like a twit. I'd say you were more or less right in what you said, but perhaps this is a "Don't feed the bears" scenario where things shouldn't have gotten escalated by either of you.

He's clearly a Skywalker Halo fan, and of the type that makes Yoda fans cry. Like me.
To clarify, I really can't answer the poll question because I think what you said was right (other than about story), but that you were perhaps wrong in saying it. Winding someone up with the truth is both 'correct' and in most cases also 'wrong', see also "trolling".

Trolls aren't allowed in the army. Besides, he's probably a private or something if he was even telling the truth. A bunch of FPS games motivated this generation into the military. Might as well replace Master Chief with Uncle Sam. Thing is that in real life, you have to exercise and do drills.

ok dude, first off, the homicide isn't neccessary.
Secondly, if we killed every incompetent human being as you just defined it, most of my friends would be killed.
Thirdly, based on what you said about the homicide, I don't think your qualified to be around other people in public.

Agreed. I've met some pretty great people in all branches of the military. A lot of them are close friends of mine and I am honored to count them as such. This man is probably the farthest from ever recieving such respect.

I don't think he thinks that he can do what ever he wants because of the fact that he's in the army, I think that he mentioned is supposed military career to prove his maturity.
