I dont understand the point of your post. Is it to say that having arguments over the internet (or xbox live) is pointless, or is it that army guys have no taste in gaming stories? Or is that recon has no story? I think that its ok for him to like the story and you to not like it. You started the argument saying that him enjoying the story was stupid because bungie was a terrible story teller.

Clearly you knew it would make him a sad panda by keep pointing out vices in his favorite series. There are definitely people who have a hard time keeping out their emotions from an ordinary debate, and clearly he is somewhat of a Halo fan.

So I was talking with my friends about how they liked ODST (Stayed up all night/skipped school just to play it) and they were like "Its awesome" and such. So then I asked the question "How's the story?" and they said "Great!".


But the real "Argument" started when I said
"I saw a review of it online and all it said was that the story just holds the game together."

So then the army dude gets PISSED! Like seriously angry. He yells

"So what, you gonna believe some stupid fucking gaming site? This story is fucking GREAT!"

I just chip in

"I dunno, Bungie isn't known for great stories. Look at almost any other gaming company for that"

So he gets even angrier (Please note, I have no idea he's in the army at this point)

"FUCK YOU! You don't know SHIT about gaming and is probably a twelve year old who's balls haven't dropped!"

So naturally I went for his maturity.

"Wow, cussing and jokes about my age, great, but I'm fifteen and probably more mature then your stupid fanboy ass."

"Ahahaha! Just talk to my commanding officer *****! Thats right. THE FUCKING ARMY!"

"Dude, your commanding officer would be fucking ASHAMED of you for boasting about being in the army in an argument about videogames."

So I ask of you after this long post, was I right to say this?

For all you know the guy could have been faking it. Never take anything at face value when you hear it on x-box live or the inernet. Especially in mmo's, you cant trust anyone you dont know outside the game.

Sure he could have been in the army but last I checked our military doesnt have qualifications on video games.

But hey, it was over X-box live, just move on. If it makes you feel better I have done stupider things on the web than talk down to an army guy. One time I almost got kicked out of my Warhammer guild for almost starting a flame war with several other guilds. Since I didnt know what I was doing I was forgiven but man that was a real downer ....

Trolls aren't allowed in the army. Besides, he's probably a private or something if he was even telling the truth. A bunch of FPS games motivated this generation into the military. Might as well replace Master Chief with Uncle Sam. Thing is that in real life, you have to exercise and do drills.

On the bright side, THEY pay YOU, and if you luck out and aren't in a war, then you don't stand to lose anything, since it will look good on a resume and you might even get college subsidized. On the other hand you could get a "Red Badge Of Courage" scenario where all your video game images are violently blasted out of your mind, in which case you're probably not the Chief...
