Today i had the "opportunity" to listen to modern day music (on reflection, i was forced into it) and what was experienced has forever scarred me and has deepened my hate for greed.
What i'm talking about is todays music, sure you could call some of the new artists talented, but only if you like eating through a tube.

What happened to the 80s, sure people wanted to be in bands to haul in some cash but atleast they faded away quickly because heroin was still obtainable which kept out all of the people who had no real friends/fans. What happened to buckling down, writing music, trying to make what you're playing sound good? Where the fuck did all the talent go? Im starting to blame pro tools and girls who like the emo/hardcore image and pretty boys who cant take a punch to the face.
I, for some reason beyond understanding, was not raised in the 80s but after the age of 7 i refused to listen to music that was brought to me by the tv or the radio, only I would choose what id even listen to and i then raised myself in the 80s by listening to nothing but the golden age of metal

Prime example, 80s metal.

After these last two videos, you may be asking "Why must you make me listen to this? What the fuck have I ever done to you?" Well please endure this last video to kick you swiftly in the nuts and say, "there's more, ****."

By now you've probably opened up itunes and are now in the secure domains of your own music.

My question to you is, have you felt metal has become boring now? Does there need to be another jimmi hendrix to redefine the fine arts of music? Another metallica to start up a genre? Another Megadeth to refine it?

Dude... kindly calm down. It's called an "opinion"; we thank you for sharing yours, but not when you shove it down our throats like that.

I hate 80s metal. Its just annoying to my ears. However on the flip side I hate alot of the new shit that passes for metal nowadays. The screaming isnt singing. Not even metal singing. You just gotta pick and choose songs now. Its hard to be a loyal follower and still be a staunch metal head with all the shit thats coming out nowadays.

Depends what kind of metal you are into. I personally keep to the power/symphonic side of metal like Rhapsody of Fire, Apocalyptica, Kamelot, Elvenking etc. Plus I like some of the classics as well like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.
All those are still doing fine.
I can't say I like thrash though. Megadeth/Metallica have never done anything for me. So I say - that metal which I enjoy doesn't need anything. As for your preferred metals... Metal is constantly evolving, which is why it has survived so long and done so well. Just wait a few years for another evolutionary change and things might become more to your tastes.

I don't have time to check the links, but imo the downfall of metal started with Poison and contiues with growling.

But chin up...Iron Maiden is still out there kicking everyone's ass. New album should be out next year sometime.

Personally I find those songs to be under the classification of Death Metal. That's it. It's not really a fair look at todays metal if you only listened to a couple of bands.

I was expecting that some people werent into the thrashy stuff of early megadeth and metallica, but i just gave those as examples, they actually sat down, put pen to paper, wrote music, failed, then tried again until it sounded good.

Hi there. You seem to be very mis informed; these bands whose videos you show us are not metal bands. Metal today is still as amazing as it was 20 years ago, it's just changed (some, myself included , would say its changed for the better) Look up Pantera, Machine Head, Lamb of God, Down, Damageplan etc.

To answer your question, I don't think that metal has become boring, there are still plenty of bands out there with new and interesting sounds, like Mastodon and Gojira for example. its just that they are steadily becoming submerged n a sea of generic bands who all follow in each others footsteps. You just have to become a bit of a music snob to bypass this. Theres plenty of good metal out there in the modern world.

Mastodon, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Gojira, Children of Bodom, Down, Meshuggah, Opeth.

Metal is as healthy as it's ever been. Sure there is some crap but there always has ben, it just gets more coverage now.

EDIT: My days, I got ninja'd a few times in the post above. I could add more, I was trying to focus on newer bands really but...

I actually know of all the bands you mentioned, pantera being my favourite out of the mentioned, but everywhere you go there is always some obscure metal band that you just curiously click on thinking, "I hope these guys are good." There are probably a lot of obscure metal bands that show up in these bundled lists of generic crap that actually have some talent, but with generic indie bands, generic mainstream bands, its pretty hard to find out which metal bands are good during your search and calling it quits since the same music under a different band name keeps popping up.

Yeah I see your point, there's just so much crap around that you begin to loose your faith in the genre :(

Personally, I don't really look for new music. I just wait until music I like finds me, if you know what I mean. That way I avoid trawling through hoards of generic wannabe bands. If something jumps out at me at a festival, in a compilation, or a mate suggests something to me, then I will check it out :D

First of all, calm down, it's only music. :)

Second of all, three amazing songs from the '80s, well done, have points.

Third of all, no, I disagree that metal has become boring. You picked two pretty boring bands to begin with (although the third was "unavailable in my country") so you've managed to sum up your opinions by generalising modern metal. Not good.

Fourth, we have another Hendrix, his name is Yngwie Malmsteen =P But seriously, someone who could play as influentially as Hendrix? Of course I'd love to hear another one of those, but I'm not on the big scene yet, so we'll have to wait.

Fifth, you picked Megadeth in your three. I'm still stoked about that, have some more points.

Finally, something valid instead of ramblings:

Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but please don't barrage us with rant. Personally, while I love metal in all it's forms, the '80s was amazing for metal. But, there is some good modern metal as well. Music's changed with the times, but even now there are bands aiming to forge their own way through and create a name for themselves by being different. Yes, the '80s were good for metal, but we aren't in the '80s now. There is some amazing modern metal.

Point in case: Children of Bodom [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_10zZ1XpmU0], Bullet For My Valentine [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjMIB-3Iwms&feature=fvst], Dimmu Borgir [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joEAb_y7ZYA] and Steel Panther [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bC0A9TXpm0]. Especially Steel Panther. =P

Also, Alestorm [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alIHf32N58Q]. Can't go wrong with Alestorm [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfYq-7zAQFA].

EDIT: Apparently the song that's unavailable here in England was a Bullet For My Valentine song, and from Scream Aim Fire. Bad choice man. The Poison's a much better album overall, and the point about three songs being used to represent the entirety of modern metal still stands.

You said what I felt the need to say, so thanks for that.

And now I'm going to do something I never thought I'd do, I'm going to stand up for metal, because there ARE some good modern metal bands around believe it or not

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=labytsb3gfI Mastodon (don't know what subgenre they are)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utT0lLC6d5Q Converge (mathcore?)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpB-vONJVkY SSS (thrash)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSXCogYvQlw Municipal Waste (thrash)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=924bRfmiJ20 Evile (thrash)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_GgowniQWk BORIS (stoner metal, or something, whatever, just listen to her shred!)

Music isn't getting worse, you're just getting old. :p

Also damn I like metal more than I thought I did.

Too keep this list going
Pantera, testament (ok fine, both are 90's and thrash influenced but still awsome), kreator (not long until they are here), Airbourne (maybe a little more rock-ish but still awsome new age stuff), both slayer and megadeth are still going. There's stuff like fear factory and the like out there as well, it's a case of knowing where to look, a lot of really solid bands are coming out of europe, so if your a metalhead try paying attention to europian charts over american ones.

Okay, be fair. You just picked Bullet's worst song as an example. Many of their other songs are amazing (Anything off the album "The Poison".

And BMTH are a grindcore band. And a damn good one at that.

I think it's less a genre-specific thing than it is an overall trend of mediocrity in music overall.
While increased access to distribution has certainly resulted in some bands which do not fit the corporate mold to get recognition, it's also allowed every putz with a few bucks to get just as much exposure as the misunderstood artists out there.
The unfortunate endpoint is that we have a sea of garbage to wade through to find the few gems. Don't let it bother you, though, because it can only lend perspective. Just think, years ago no one knew how special the good ones were, because they had no idea how much crappiness there was.
Now we know. There are turds a'plenty.

I'm followers of the old and new. In particular, I'm a huge fan of mixed genres. Especially Folk+Metal and Classicl+Metal. I'm a die-hard metal fan but I like my metal to at least have a melody.

I'm also a bit of an elitist of metal. In my opinion bands like BMTH and JFAC are not metal. They're emo as far as I'm concerned, what with inward whiny screaming and piercing bass-drums instead of... bass drums.

Don't expect to see much good on MTV, but you just look beneath the scummy surface that is mainstream 'metal' and there are plenty of great modern day bands to be found.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYdbLfLnIHk Lost Horizon - Pure (greatest singer ever)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky1nY3jlq1M Crom - The Stars Shall Fall
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eABVwEgzIss Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God

Add to that the great black metal bands that emerged in the '90s and the fact that the likes of Motorhead, Maiden, Dio etc are still going strong, I hardly think metal has become boring.

Admittedly thrash metal does seem to be dying out a bit but I've always hated thrash so its not something I'll shed a tear over.
