They would of brought all the mane (hahaha) cast back from G1, but Hasbro only owned the rights to the show, Spike, and Apple Jack, not the rest of the ponies (I don't get it either). So Faust changed the names and some of the designs that she had been working on, kept the personalities she thought up the same.Kopikatsu said:

Never watched the cartoons though I played one of the games on the Sega Channel and used to have the toys, they smelled like fruit...lol.
I only saw maybe three episodes, and all I remember is that the tough boy pony (I think he was grey?) actually had a soft, kind side to him that only one of the girl ponies knew about. He wanted her to keep it secret. See, it was on the Disney channel when I was little. And back then, you had to pay to get the Disney channel, so we didn't get it. My friend did though, and every time I spent a Friday night there, Saturday morning his sisters would watch the show. They loved horses. I enjoyed it because it was on Disney channel, something we didn't get, so it was new and exciting to me. However, whether I actually enjoyed the show itself, I can't say. I have no real memories of it except what is stated above.

It was pretty awful before the current generation.
And by pretty awful, I mean extremely awful. As in, I want to destroy all evidence it ever existed awful.

From what I've heard the previous generations were brightly colored fluff, just designed to sucker kids into buying toys.
Needless to say, I got into it because of FiM.

The poll option for "Not untill Friendship is Magic did I take notice" is a bit poorly worded. I mean, I actually watched the movie way back as a child. It was awful. However, Friendship Is Magic is not. So I had taken notice before Faust picked up the show, but I didn't like it.
Meh, I just apathetic to it in general...most of the fans seem to like it ironically though so its always kinda turned me off to it.
Then again, I've only watched like five minutes of one episode, if someone could provide a link to a complete list of episodes I'd probably go check it out. (and yes, I am that lazy...).
Edit: I went and watched part of the first episode...the animation is actually quite good...
